Saliris Resort Egerszalok

Big spa complex at Saliris Resort and Spa, with big indoor pools (from 14C to 36C) and wellness. There are at least 10-15 different pools alltogether, also pool with sliders for children, but this Saliris Spa wellness complex it is not an Aqua Park! The outdoor thermal pool is a second to none especially in cold seasons and weather (autumn and winter and spring), when your head breezing, while you are in the warm 33-36C water.

The Basilica

this is a must see sight, it is beautiful on the outside and outstanding on the inside with sensational artwork, statues and so much gold work it is difficult to take it all in. The frescos are breathtaking. The Basilica is also a cool and calm haven on a very hot day. Welcome respite.

From Budapest it was worth the drive through beautiful surroundings with snow. 3 hours in the warm water is enough. Kids loved the steep slides and we enjoyed the water bar. Try it if you are looking for a different bathing experience.

Dobo Square

With the exception of a very ugly building built under socialism the main square is a worth visiting and seeing the shops and the church and the statue. they really should demolish the modern building or give it an exterior the fits the neoclassical/baroque atmosphere of the square.

St. Andrea Pinceszet (Winery)

My friend and I visited this place for an English language wine tasting. We booked through their website and by calling. Our host was Zita Balogh, who is actually an enologist. Zita took us around the cellar, and explained many interesting facts about wine making. As for the tasting, she asked about our taste preference and customized the tasting based on this. We could try a nice variety of white and red wines. The tasting was accompanied by some water and fresh baguette so that the wine doesn't go too much into our head :) It was a nice experience.

There are over 40 tasting rooms in a very easy to walk horseshoe. #14 was exquisite. However the rose from #16 is the best I've ever had. Afterwards - have a meal outside at the Kulacs Csarda Panzio - best restaurant in Hungary!

Apart from having some interesting Exhibitions inside inner castle (most of them of extra charge), this castle has some impressive views over town of Eger. Not too crowded, it was a very pleasant and leisurely visit. Good restaurant on site too.

This ancient Minaret, a hold over from the Ottoman occupation of the 1500's, is currently under renovation, but nevertheless provides a unique perspective of life in and around Eger. The nearby castle defense structures, when paired with this Minaret provide a contrast of defender and occupier. Wow!

Quite small museum with an interesting topic; marzipan. Pretty much everything you see here is made out of marzipan. Expect a colourful scenery in a charming little house.
