One of the best places to take in the vistas of this beautiful village. The walls provide excellent groundings to get your bearings.

Chateau de la Hunaudaye

Reviewed By LunanGirl - Dublin

We went here expecting to spend about an hour in the castle and ended up staying for 4 hours.
it is very interesting. Not particularly easy to get around as there are a lot of steps so not for people with limited mobility.
There was an exhibition on the work of Tomm Moore when we were there and it was fascinating. Our kids loved it , it was like a little bit of Ireland in France.
Apart from the exhibit it was just a great way to spend an afternoon

Beautiful and charming church that is more than 700 years old. Stumbled unto it whilst navigating the tiny medieval streets of the old town. Well worth a visit while in Dinan. Make sure you visit the rampart with an amazing panoramic view of the bridge and the old port, right behind the church. Bring a good zoom.

Eglise Saint-Malo de Dinan

Reviewed By cristoph2010 - Toronto

Architecturally, it's beautiful. While the side altars are probably no longer used, the square marbles on some of the altars suggest that the relics are probably still in them. Other side altars have that slab removed. Nevertheless, I was more impressed with those side altars than the modern looking main altar. The stained glasses are nice. However, they seem to be a little bit younger than the age of the church. Work started in the 15th century and finished in the 19th century. The spiral stairs to the lectern is beautiful. Worth a pit stop if you are in the area.

La Tour de l'Horloge

The tour de l'Horlage involves a climb up a series of steps which ends with a very steep short stairway. I climbed up in the late afternoon and had a splendid view of the city. It gives a good overview of the city and there is a strange graphic explanation half way up in French but with English subtitles.visual

Very interesting place to visit if you don't have any form of disability, too many stairs with one side with no handrail or stair to walk safely.

Porte du Jerzual

Reviewed By Gail M - Bunbury, Australia

We holidayed here in August , from Australia and apparently the busiest month of the year. We rented a private residence for three weeks and daily walked down to this beautiful port. Took tours on the many cruises available, walked to the beautiful little town of Lehon only a couple of kilometres away and thru the incredible forest along the river bank where we stopped and had a picnic lunch of Vegemite sandwhiches.
Trekked along the ramparts of the castle which is the actual town of Dinan and had the wow moments of our lives. This town was more than we ever expected and we are going back as soon as we can.
Rented a car and drove a few hours to Normandy to visit the war memorials stopped along the way talked to locals who were more than happy to speak English and also help us with our French.
If anyone is thinking of going to France then do yourselves a favour and visit beautiful Dinan.

Rail Museum

Reviewed By WardenRon - Kingston upon Thames, United Kingdom

Housed in four rooms in Dinan railway station this little museum is stuffed to the rafters with railway models and memorabilia of all kinds; from Brittany, from France more generally, and to a lesser extent from other countries. The amateur enthusiasts who run it clearly want to put their entire collection on display, and have felt unable to decline any gift - even of a knitted toy train! The museum also includes a small cinema, and a rebuild of Dinan's 19th century signal cabin. Most impressive item is a detailed model of a travelling circus and fairground - and of the train that transported it. Perhaps mainly for the rail buff, but there is enough in this rather odd little museum to interest the general visitor. Open only in summer.

Chateau de Dinan

Reviewed By Paul O

The Chateau de Dinan is a very short walk from the picturesque town via cobbled streets. It is also very close to the Casteel. Parking at the Chateau is very limited and what they have is very tight. Pre-booking for your stay is definitely recommended, although there is a free car park reasonably close by and access to and from via some steep steps. The free car park is very busy and there is limited spaces there too.
Dinan is a wonderful medieval town with some wonderful restaurants and great sights. It is well worth visiting. The surrounding area is beautiful too so there is lots to see and do. I would think a 2-3 day visit will ensure you see all there is to see in Dinan, but it is a good place to stay to travel to and from areas within the region.
We stayed there as a group of men playing golf in the region. But I was so taken with Dinan that I am going back next year with my wife (not to play golf but to truly see Dinan and the area).
I am a pretty useless French speaker (going to classes to improve for next year) but the locals were all very friendly and most helped out with English which was much better than my French!
There are some better located Hotels - but for our purposes where we only really stayed there for sleeping (B&B basis). it was more than adequate. The staff were friendly, the room clean and the shower/bathroom very adequate (or other friends bathroom was missing a shower door, which they reported, but during our 3 night stay was not resolved so water apparently drenched the floor! But other than that the breakfast was typically French with a buffet style service. There is a small bar in the hotel for a night-cap - no where to really sit. but nevertheless useful for us!
One real downside; we had rooms facing the road. There is no air-conditioning and during our visit in early Sept 2016 it was very hot outside. So opening the windows you had very noisy sounds from passing traffic . It was much better with the windows closed, but then very hot and sticky in the room. so if booking specify you want a room on the other side - it might be a lot less noisy for you.
