Torre di San Martino

The Climb is mostly up ramps inside the tower and a few sets of steps at the higher levels. I would recommend doing the climb in the early morning. The inside began getting warm as we neared the top at about 10:00 am. The views of the countryside are excellent. There are stone benches at each level, if you must stop. Well worth the 5 Euros.

This very small church is located just inside the entrance portal to the town. The church dates from the 12th century and was mainly used by the garrison stationed at the castle and the local villagers. Inside are frescos dating from the 14th centruy. Well worth stopping to see.

We had a two hours walk from Desenzano to the Padenghe castle (about 7 Km.) When we arrived we visited the internal part of the castle and we took plenty of pictures of the panoramic view. The only negative point: at the moment the right part is under maintenance.

Parco La Quiete

The Parco la Quiete in Lonato di Garda offers many opportunities to relax and enjoy yourselves, such as going for long walks along the grassy pathways, swimming in one of the three pools, suitable also for children, or taking advantage of the sports areas. There are picnic and barbecue areas, as well as the Canne Al Vento restaurant and pizzeria, open every day.

Had a day here as a couple on holiday in lake Garda from London, England. We didn't see or hear any other English here which was actually very nice! Lots of Italians who clearly love this place. Lots of pools, loads of grassy space with free umbrellas. Very clean , lots of food huts but recommend taking a nice picnic and sitting in the sun as we did. Kids LOVE this place - loads of fun equipment and activities for them. No litter, all very clean and tidy. Entrance was 12 euros for each of us which we though was a bit pricey , then 3 euros each on top of that for renting a sunbed - sunbeds should really be free we feel. No dogs allowed here which is good really as you wouldn't want dog mess everywhere. Really good place for a day of relaxing

Villa Romana ed Antiquarium di Desenzano del Garda

Reviewed By CultureVultureCamb - Cambridge

I've visited quite a lot of Roman ruins over the years but I don't think I've seen such an extensive collection of mosaics anywhere else. I was awestruck to be viewing work that has been around for nearly two millennia.
I note that other reviewers have commented on the lack of English explanations. We found there was quite a lot of information boards in English plus the lady in the ticket office gave us an English language guide to take around with us - or at least one in museum speak.
Either way, you don't need much in the way of any language to marvel at the ruins here - not only the mosaics but the structure of the underfloor heating and the like.

Fondazione Ugo Da Como

Nestled amongst the stunning Southern hills of Lake Garda, in the heart of the historical centre of Lonato, lies the home of the Ugo Da Como Foundation with the castle (Rocca Visconteo Veneta) and the house-museum (Casa del Podestà). An evocative visit takes you through the furnished rooms of the house, also to a stunning library filled with a precious ancient book collection. The house is surrounded by splendid private Gardens and the last step of the visit takes you up to the Visconti-Venetian fortress, admired by Napoleon.

The tours are only in Italian and it is necessary to follow a group.
The house and library were nice, however the whole experience was spoiled by a very bossy and unpleasant guide. He wouldn’t let us to look into a different room (from the room we were in, through a door) or touch a booklet (displayed on the table, available for purchase at the end of the tour).
Altogether we didn’t enjoy it at all.
On a practical note, there isn't anywhere in the town to eat.
Not a very good destination for a trip.

We were golfing in a club nearby and discovered that there is a winery close to the golf club. Short phone call, request for the degustation and we are here. Really nicely decorated tasting room. More than friendly and attentive owner. Full line of wines tasted. Lots of information and tons of tastes. This is the place to feel the local winemaking as it develops. Wines are great. We are happy. Go there and try!

Museo Casa del Podesta

The "Casa del Podesta" was erected towards in the mid fifteenth century as the residence of the representative of the Republic of Venice in Lonato, a territory which was under Venetian domination for almost 350 years. The House of the Podesta or chief magistrate belonged to Venice until the Treaty of Campoformio in 1797, when it became Austrian propriety and was turned into a military barracks. In the second half of the nineteenth century the building passed at the ends at the Town Hall of Lonato which took not interested in it, using it as poorhouse for the town poorest families. In 1906 the Liberal deputy Ugo Da Como bought it at a public auction and submitted it to a radical restoration based on the historicist recovery of the original style: appointing Antonio Tagliaferri, the most important Brescia architect of the period, as supervisor of the works.

An intimate museum with a fantastic guide who kept a 7yr old engaged. We joined a group of five from three different nationalities so it was pretty funny. The castle is also interesting. Lots of parking nearby.
