This National Park is bouncing back well from 2013 devastation by bushfire. The tracks are in good order, with the track up to the mountain tops summit very well maintained. As you climb, views are spectacular, and the big picture - walking among remnants of the ancient volcano - is mind-boggling. A must do!

A very informative Visitor Centre with plenty of placards and models about Astronomy in general and this optical telescope in particular. Every level of prior knowledge is catered for and there is a fascinating (long) video presentation. The real thrill, however, is the opportunity to go up into the visitor gallery in the main telescope and look at the massive machinery. Do not miss the separate video presentation in this gallery about the annual process for re-aluminising the main mirror. Astounding.

The Sandstone Caves is just north of Coonabarabran, on the Newell Highway. Unfortunately these Caves are not signposted from the Highway but are situated between Cusack Creek and Billy Creek on a dirt road signposted as Yaminbah Trail. Only a short drive off the highway and a short easy walk to loop around a sandstone hill with a number of Caves historically used by local aboriginals. It is a special peaceful place with colourful rock formations and great vistas of the surrounding district.

We had an amazing storm whilst in the centre...lasted about 3 minutes So interesting as they have a real dinasor head...fantastic info and wonderful informative staff.

This was the first museum in Australia to display only local minerals, crystals and fossils. The display contains some of the world's rarest zeolite crystals and some rare local fossils. The attached retail outlet sells gemstone jewellery , mineral specimens, fossils and gift lines. Open every day, except Xmasday.

Crystal world has an ASTOUNDING collection of geomorphical treasures i've never even HEARD of.
Fuzzy crystals, bulbous finger-shaped quartz, jagged, blue-swirly alien metals and intricately carved stones...
...and fossils from 22 million years ago.
Worth a stop in.

As said the night sky was perfect...good inf given but too many in a group ..viewing was ok,thought it could be better but did not have anything to compare with.

Love design, art and handmade craft. Have been travelling the world visiting designers and artists.
Have international product release next week with sculpts by international artists.
Drove 3hrs to get to Piliga Pottery.
Tried to compliment resident artist by saying how much I admired the skill, time and effort other artists put into their work.
She turned to me and said "Well, maybe instead of talking about it you should go out and actually try it."
WOW. Thanks, 40 years of practice and a succesful design business has NEVER made me think to try that. Not everything is black and white.
So rude. Helped me decide where we were staying that night: Coonabarabran....not here.
If you want to stay in an artists' commune: This is for you. Very open, animals ranging freely, guests in and out of the eating areas, European people in sleeveless shirts and gumboots in 4° temps drinking endless cups of coffee...tick
Doing art and pottery classes: tick. You'll love this. Very arty. Everything you can dream of made of pottery, cups, lights, clocks, vases, doors, walls, tiles, plates etc
However, It's a bad sign when artists condascend to people complimenting them.
It's why the world is full of "starving artists" because talent doesn't mean personality.

Milroy Observatory is the largest public access telescope in Australia with night sky tours available on all clear nights. Bookings are essential. The show starts with a night sky tour with our astronomer and then a number of bright and deep sky objects are observed with our outdoor telescopes and then we go inside the dome to look through the eyepiece of the historic 40inch telescope. See planets, galaxies, nebulas and star clusters amongst other amazing night sky wonders.

The "Sculptures in the Scrub" is a beautiful setting and the sculptures in the natural surroundings are quite out standing.
A 3km walk past the all the sculptures and into the gorge is a significant way to experience the ways of the aboriginal people who lived and hunted in the area.
I was taken by how much the sculptures had become well balanced with the "culture" of the gorge and suited the environment very well.
The effort to visit this significant location is well rewarded, tread softly, listen and take it all in.
