Frio Bat Flight Tours

Frio Cave is home to an estimated 10-12 million Mexican Free Tailed Bats. On scheduled evenings, from March thru September, guests meet with a guide who explains about the history of Frio Cave and the bats that call it home. Then, standing near the cave opening, they watch the bats fly out over their heads. Most evenings various birds of prey fly in to feast on the bats on the wing. Guest enjoy a Hill Country sunset as the streams of bats ribbon away into the distance. Tours end at dark.

Tourists come to this cave at sunset to see the thousands of bats who live there as they fly out for the night.

Been there as a kid a long time ago. We have been back a few times to show the grandkids. Amazing to see so many bats fly out and how long it takes for them to exit. Also, some times you can watch a redtail hawk capture a bat for dinner. Worth the time .

Garner State Park

The park was very crowded, as expected, on this day. Nevertheless we found parking pretty close to the Old Baldy trailhead. We wanted to do the hardest hike first so up the trail we went. You’ll want to wear hiking boots vs tennis shoes. Lots of big rocks and loose gravel on all the trails. The hike up immediately gets steep. About a half mile in it you’ll start scrambling up rocks another quarter mile until you get to the top. Took us about 30 minutes to ascend. Awesome scenic views of the Frio River valley. A cool 15’ mound of rocks with an American flag sticking out of it for a nice photo op. We took the Foshee trail around the rim to the Old Rock Fence and then the Bird trail over to White Rock Cave and down. That added another 1.75 miles to the hike. The grade heading down was extremely steep and more loose rocks and gravel. We finished our total hike in just under 2 hours including all stop breaks. In addition, we ended up back at our starting point at the Old Baldy trailhead.

Stayed at 7 Bluff cabins about 1 mile or less down the road, would highly recommend, course is very beautiful, nice golf shop, clean restrooms, nice outside bar, all paths are concrete and easy to follow, saw white tailed deer as well as Axis deer, was a busy course but was a very lovely day and all we had to do was enjoy the course and we did, we will definitely be back.

The staff inside and outside were friendly, efficient, helpful, and excellent. Walking in the store and picking up souvenirs and few things to make the Frio float a little more fun was easy- the inventory was perfect. Checking out was easy and the clerk was able to answer many questions as we had not been to Concan before. The staff running the shuttle were also knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and helpful. I highly recommend Josh's for a Frio stop!!

One of the nicest miniature golf courses in the Texas Hill Country. There are two 18 hole courses and a large practice green which is situated in a beautiful setting with plenty of benches. Non-players can relax and enjoy watching the fun from a central patio area. Play each 18 hole course for only $5.00.
