Offering both open links-style and tight tree-lined fairways, this 18-hole golf course stretches 6,534 yards at par 72.

Auburn Hills was in great shape when we played it in October. The course features a good amount of undulation, but is not overly steep. There is great variety in the holes, with variation in distance, elevation and green shape.
The greens were very challenging, with lots of slope and contour. This is definitely a place where you are going to end up on the wrong side of the hole the first time that you play the course.
A really enjoyable round of golf. Water was only in play on a few holes.

I visited white barrel last week with some friends. We had never been there before and were excited to try it. Everything was amazing. The bartender was so friendly and kind when we walked in and gave us a run down of everything. We sat outside and were served by Rance. He was phenomenal. He was knowledgeable about all of the wine and helped us make all of our decisions. He was helpful and a lot of fun. We all agreed it was the best service we had ever received. The food and wine were wonderful. We will definitely be back!

Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech

Reviewed By loves2travelandmore - Forest, Virginia

The Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech is challenging but very enjoyable. The course parallels the New River which adds greatly to the already attractive scenery. The clubhouse is modern, the course is in good condition, and the people are friendly. There are some narrow fairway necks, fairway bunkers, and some greens perched on knolls so shot placement is important. Greens tended to be a little small. The course has rolling terrain but is well-maintained. While there is a very nice neighborhood adjacent to the course, there are no houses on the course that would trouble anyone with an errant shot. The views are outstanding, and an outdoor wedding was being held this particular evening. We look forward to a return visit.

Located on the VA Tech campus, this almost 6 acre site is open from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year (not fenced in). While it doesn't take too long to meander through the property, it is certainly worth (it's free) doing if you're in the area. There are a number of plant "displays:" conifers, annuals, perennials, and a xeriscape garden, among others. The "stream garden," with koi and goldfish, is very attractive.

There is a very nice "Garden Guide" (map) available for you to pick up.
