March 9, 2018 Florencio Paulino

Chapin, popularly known as the capital of Lake Murray, is a small, affluent, lake town located at the northern tip of Lexington County, South Carolina bordering Newberry County, South Carolina to the south. Lake Murray separates Chapin from the rest of Lexington County. Chapin is located approximately 22 miles northwest of Columbia and many people commute there for work, however, the town is considered fringe rural by the US postal service. Chapin is known for its charm and southern hospitality and is consistently rated in the Top 10 places to live in South Carolina. Chapin was founded by Martin Chapin in 1889. The following year, 1890, the railroad was built to connect Chapin to Columbia, South Carolina and other major regions. The population of Chapin was 1,445 according to the 2010 census, however, the population of the area with a Chapin mailing address, which is all known as Chapin by local people, is 6,742. The town government is set up in the Mayor-Council form and the current Chapin mayor is David W. Knight. Chapin has four public schools in the area; the first Chapin school was built in 1924. Lake Murray is the main attraction to Chapin and provides recreational boaters with water-related entertainment.

I have camped here and also paddle boarded from this location. Even if your campsite isn't right on the water it is still really nice and enjoyable. The restrooms/showers were clean. The park was family friendly. Great paddling around the island too.

Crooked creek park is really close to my buddies house. So we have been going the past few days to throw disc. The course is nice but really difficult given the amount of trees. The throwing pads are concrete and the baskets are newer disc crafts. The overall park is very nice with playgrounds and tennis courts. We will continue to use the park to enjoy the 18 hole course.

More known as The White church, this old wooden structure is a true historic gem. Lovers of old time Americana will be in their glory. walking around the structure is amazing=it's in great condition. The modern Lutheran church sits across the street. The have left a stand where visitors can get a pamphlet talking about the history of the church and structure, I suggest this place for those who love old buildings and those who like to study church history. Very pleased. FREE attraction. I believe the church is open certain times for public viewing of the inside.

Little Mountain Antique Mall & Cafe

We enjoy "picking" and on our way from Clemson to Myrtle Beach, decided we needed a break to visit. Lovely store with lots of interesting displays including an old car or two in the basement. We were greeted on the front porch by a lovely gentleman who was sweeping up just after opening. He chatted with us, explained about the cafe in the basement and said to flag him down if we needed anything during our visit. Entered the store and again greeted with a warm welcome from the lady behind the counter, asking us if this was our first visit and explaining the store layout. We really enjoyed our visit. Ate at the cafe in the basement--food was great, wait staff a little grumpy. We will go back when we are in the area again.
