Rosnay Organic Wines of Australia

Welcome to Rosnay, an organic vineyard and orchard at Canowindra, in the Central Ranges of NSW, Australia. Rosnay was created by the Statham family in 1997, and produces certified organic wines, olives, and figs. Visitors are welcome at any time by appointment for a tour and tasting, or to stay for a weekend in the original farm house converted for Farmstay accommodation. Certified organic since 1998, the vines and orchards have never been sprayed with harmful chemicals, a family commitment that began with Richard's father Clive Statham. The family's wine growing heritage begins on the other side of the family, with Florence Statham's french grandfather, Alberic Dulong de Rosnay, after whom the farm is named. The family's commitment to organics culminated in the winning of the inaugural Organic Pioneers Award in 2012, through the NSW Department of Primary Industries. Its commitment to making good wine has led to the winning of the Greg Johnson Trophy for Best Local Red Wine at the Cowra National Wine Show, in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and the NASAA Winestate Organic Wine of the Year in 2016.

We phoned 'on spec' and were accommodated for a tasting that afternoon. It was too late to have the grazing plate so we had a small tasting plate with estate- grown olives, olive oil and figs. Delicious. The wines are all organic and the process (new to us) and attributes were explained very well by Sam the winemaker. Would visit again if in the area.

Was in Cowra for a overnighter and even though all local wineries were closed we thought we would give them a call and see if they would have us for a tasting. They were super accommodating and Steven the wine maker was real friendly and offered us a unique and personal wine tasting experience. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day for us. We shared a bottle around the camp fire last night.

The Age of Fishes Museum

Reviewed By colin-pryor - Canowindra, Australia

This was a fossil find in 1956 discovered accidentally by a road worker. The fossils are of the late Devonian period (Age Of Fishes) some of these fish fossils display attributes that prepares them to walk out of water onto dry land for the first time. This is evidence of the first start of life on land 360-365 million years ago, thus ending the Devonian Period. Palaeontologists from around the world study these unique fossils. Sir David Attenborough is one of the museum’s many global fans. Someone commented on this site that it’s a strange place for such a museum! No it isn’t, this is where the event happened all those millions of years ago. MUST SEE.

Nangar National Park

Reviewed By Tripping_Taylors - Australia, null

We'd intended on camping in the park, but the National Parks website said you had to book and it was full - camping is free, but this is only due to COVID that you need to book. In any case there were plenty of sites and it appears nobody booked! But this park is great. Very lush and green. Lots of water in the creeks, which made for plenty of muddy creek crossings in the car. Dripping Rock was flowing. Did the walk from there to Mount Nangar, which was very steep, but the views were spectacular. The walk is 6km return and apparently takes 6 hours. We did the return in 2.5. Will come back and camp.
