Jardin Botanico del Quindio

Reviewed By gyanfernando - Exeter, United Kingdom

A very interesting Botanical Garden mostly forested but with easy pathways and a suspension bridge. A glass fronted shelter allows you to watch birds and Agoutis.
There is a rather expensive cafe and rest area halfway.
Then there is a stunning butterfly garden followed by an Orchid garden. There is also a display of insects and butterflies.
A guide is essential although it is well sign posted.
Our guide Dora, spoke good English.

My wife and I went on the tour of the reserve (guadua means "bamboo tree") in a cloud forest. Carlos was our guide, and for over two hours guided us through the forest, explaining the ecological issues that allow this marvelous place to survive. This survival is aided by the commitment of Carlos and his colleagues of the Kasaguadua Foundation, who are committed to preserving the forest. This was not only an educational and inspiring tour, but also provided a hike through beautiful scenery. It is free but donations are accepted (and really, really you should donate if you go on this tour). It is a short jeep ride from Salento, but also walkable. Don't miss it if you're in Salento!

This was a wonderful tour. Our guide Luis was hilarious and very animated. We learned all that we could through our friends interpretation as Luis spoke about as much English as we do Spanish. Regardless, it was a great experience. We highly recommend this tour.

Parque del Cafe

This is such an amazing visit to learn more about Colombia’s coffee culture.
There’s something to do for everyone. If you want to enjoy the rides and the different activities you might need more than a day.
If you are only going for a day or don’t have much time, then it’s better to get a tour guide. Totally worth it.
El Show del Café is not to be missed. Also have your picture taken dressed as coffee farmers (chapoleras and arrieros). This makes a colorful souvenir.
And don’t forget an extra set of clothes if you’re planning to do the water park activities. The shops sell good quality tops and shorts though and they’re not expensive.

Parque de los Fundadores

Reviewed By Mateo B - Bogota, Colombia

This is a safe and pretty park located between the city center and north area. It is just to seat and enjoy the view. There is a church called Espiritu Santo, some stores and clinics around. If you are hungry, go to Frisby that is located in front of the park at Avenida Bolivar (Bolivar Ave), nice place to eat fried chicken, milk shakes and it also sells some typical Colombian meals. After you visit this park, walk to North direction and you will find Parque de la Vida, it is another interesting place to visit closest to Parque Fundadores.

The property is full of plantain trees, bamboo and more. Fantastic views of the valley. And at 40,000pp it was one of the best things my boyfriend and I did on our trip in Colombia! Ps we love the cute dogs: Rockie and Lassie!
