Beautiful wide open sandy beach with private peaceful areas amongst the dunes also, commercial zones with plentiful beach restaurants and bars. The coastal tram service runs parallel with the beach. If you enjoy walking you can walk as far as you like then take a ride back to your starting point.

Atlantic Wall Museum

Reviewed By JPGuillaume - Ostend, Belgium

During the two world wars, the Germans feared an invasion across the Channel. So just to make sure, they fortified the whole North Sea Coast. Most of the fortifications have now been demolished to make room for other walls : high-rise buildings with apartments. But in Raversijde, a whole stretch of the Atlantic Wall has been preserved with its artillery, underground tunnels and bunkers, and gives a fair idea of the effort invested in the construction, but also of what life must have been like there during the wars.

This beach is quite popular. During the summer, the beach is filled with people. Some who wants a tan, others who walk or play and some who swim in the North Sea. Little kids look for shells, with which they can buy paper flowers.
The Lido is quite close. It's a place for kids to spend a whole day with lots of activities and making friends.
As for me, I preferred to come after 6 P.M. The beach is almost completely empty and I can enjoy the nature to the fullest. On this beach, we can always see the Kursaal. We cannot be lost, as long as we look at the Kursaal.
Anyone who needs a drink or food, they only have to go on the dike and they will find that without a problem. On the beach there is also a place where people can buy drinks.
My favorite time on this beach, is when the sun sets. It's amazing!
I love this beach and every time I come to Ostend, I go to the beach, even in the winter. It's a must to see how beautiful this beach is, especially with its sunsets!

The Dunes of Bredene

Reviewed By Robby G C - Toronto, Canada

Although the sky was getting dark, I wanted to stop at the dunes of Bredene.
I had lots of special moments there when I was young with my parents. I remember looking for bunkers and explore them, as well as trekking through the dunes, as we did that day, in the dark. We had a picnic and we enjoyed the dunes and the North Sea. Those were good memories!
However back to now, it wasn't completely dark. The lights from the highway were quite bright. Still, the more we went closer to the North Sea, the darker it became.
I knew something splendid would happen, besides having a nice leisurely walk.
The sun was setting and it was truly beautiful. The seagulls nearby us were enjoying this view as well. We stayed there for twenty minutes, admiring what whas happening around us.
Then we turned back and we found our car without any problems. Even in the dark, these dunes are attractive! We had a great time, in wonder with the sunset! Worthily to see!

This is my fourth visit and I'm still utmost happy this place exists in De Haan. Probably thanks to the idealism of the owner. I believe strongly that he would have more customers if he could quit all the local publicity , which takes too long before the movie starts.

As you exit the main train station in Ostend this massive trawler is probably one of the first sights that greets the eye.
It's hard to miss and is in fact a museum dedicated to the seaman and trawler men who brave the dangerous conditions to bring home their catch.
It's all in here to see from the galley, sleeping quarters, nets, equipment that are used by these brave men.
Well worth checking out.
