The 10 Best Things to do in Brasov, Transylvania

August 21, 2021 Jeremy Dunfee

Smack in the center of Romania is Brasov, a harmonious mash-up of traditional charm and modern city life. Ride a double-decker bus around the city to get your bearings and see the sites whiz by, then hop off to squeeze down Strada Sforii, the narrowest street in Europe. Take a day trip to see the fortified church of Prejmer, the Libearty brown bear sanctuary, and the deliciously ominous Bran Castle, otherwise known as Dracula’s Castle.

Brasov Historical Center

Reviewed By Vladimiramirela - Mississauga, Canada

Brasov is one of the most beautiful cities in Romania, with plenty of historical monuments and natural attractions, many excellent restaurants and offering good accommodations as well. I recommend asking at a hotel reception for the simplified map of the Old Center and have a walk along the fortifications. The central City Square (or Piata Sfatului in Romanian) is an amazing large plaza from where one can see a bit of everything: the Tampa peak with its huge, white name of the city above, the Black Church and the historic layout of business surrounding the place.

Yekaterina's Gate

Reviewed By DraganDPG - Munich, Germany

This city gate is located some 500 metres west from the city centre and stands as the only one original city gate that has survived from that time. It dates back to 1559 and it was a replacement of an old city gate destroyed by the flood in 1528. It is named after St. Catherine's Monastery. Four small corner turrets around the main tower symbolize judicial autonomy of the city. Don't miss.
