The museum part and the Japanese houses were under renovation so I can only comment on the Gardens. They're all very nice, but my order of preference is 1) Japanese 2) Nordic (Vosges) and 3) French fruit - rose garden. Well worth a visit to get out of the bustle of downtown Paris.

Musee des Annees 30

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this museum which is located in a suburb of Paris towards the end of line 9 on the Metro.
There are displays on several floors, with large sculptures on the ground and other sculptures, paintings, furniture etc. on the upper floors - along with a display of design objects of the era - typewriters, mechanical calculators, appliances etc.
Most of the works are not by the best known artists of the era but there are some fine things and the displays capture the feel of the era very successfully.
The museum was very quiet when we were there but it was well worth the journey and I would recommend it.
If you like the 30s you should also of course visit the Musee d'Art Moderne in Paris.

Very convenient when you don't have enough time (or are too lazy) to get out of the city. The park is rather large, allows for nice shaded walks, ball games on the grass, picnics... It has a small playground for kids and can be very busy on a Saturday afternoon... The only small annoyance to me is the noise of the motorway if you don't walk far enough into the park, but it's a city park after all!

I came across this shopping centre by accident. The Centre Commercial Passages is a new shopping mall with all kinds of shops, international as well as classic French shops and cafes. It is surrounded by streets with interesting little shops. If you are looking for good shopping without hordes of tourists or customers, with good prices (the winter sales all of January) then this is the place for you.

This bookstore is near my children's schools so very convenient.
Whether it is for school or pleasure, we are always finding an excuse to go in.
If I call to inquire about a schoolbook, they happily check their stock and put is aside or order it for me.
They offer monthly readings or meet the author events that are great for adults and children alike.
There is a large selection of English or foreign books plus various gifts and school supplies.

We went to Mass in this church and what a delightful, tranquil setting. And, there's nothing like the hymns sung in French. Very well attended. The altar boys were the cutest group of rascals you've ever seen. We met the pastor, an Australian actually, who is a very dynamic guy. There's a very good vibe here. Attend a service if you have a chance.

Parc des Glacieres

This park - the National monument of Siant Cloud is just sensational and we happened to be just a 1/2 mile walk from it whilst staying in a self catering apartment in the Boulogne Billancourt area of the Paris suburbs. We had seen the area on the map before our arrival at the apartment but nothing prepared us for the scale and beauty of this place.
It has historical significance as a royal palace frequented by Marie Antoinette and Napoleon amongst others. There are some amazing building still in situ and a small museum but it is the Gardens which are largely municipal now which are the draw. Manicured spaces, dramatic borders, clipped yews, statues and ornamental ponds abound.
The park is the site of the European fireworks championships - Le Grand Feu - every September and our host advised us that it is amazing seeing the scene reflected from all the ponds. It is a venue of national prominence and we had never heard of it!
We easily spent a gloriously hot morning there spending nothing other than a few euros on bottles of water from the vending machines at the entrance (where toilets are also conveniently located and spotless). We were blessed to find this place and the lack of crowds was a real shock too. You have views down the Seine and across to the Eiffel Tower and you feel like you are the only people there. Loads of open space for little boys like our 7 year old to roam about in and it's hard typing this actually reminiscing about how gorgeous it is.
Go to Park St Cloud - it will amaze and inspire you and it's free.
