We had a day to spend in Tobago and contacted Duane at Zoe to arrange a snorkel trip for my wife, me and two of my brothers. It was absolutely perfect. Duane arranged to pick us up at airport and turned us over post-snorkel to driver Andy Orr to show us the island before our late evening flight back to Trinidad.
Duane knows and loves the island both on shore and under water. He anchored at each spot and guided us according to our varying swimming abilities to see and discover the reefs and abundant wildlife. The icing on the cake was stopping and walking the Nylon Stocking at high tide, a sand bar that makes you feel you are standing in the middle of the sea.
Duane is knowledgeable, friendly with a sharp wit and could easily engage our humorous banter. He also allowed us to discover at our own pace.
With a background in hotel management, he knows customer service and was expert n responding to emails and our varied requests to coordinate arrivals and departures.
In short, if you visit Trinidad, take a day to zip over to Tobago (21 minute flight, $49USD RT) and snorkel with Duane on the Zoe. If you're staying in Tobago, spend a day with him. You won't regret it. They call it Trinidad AND Tobago for a reason!

This was a terrific experience -- all due to Jason. From our first email to him, it was so easy to get information and continue our communication. His knowledge of his country, and particularly the bird life in the rain forest, was so impressive. We learned a great deal about life in Tobago, and my husband was delighted with the photography opportunities. Jason was careful and considerate with us, taking into account our ages, and took good care of us all the way. A must-tour for anyone loving nature.

Mount Irvine Beach

Reviewed By daffyduck625 - Norfolk, United Kingdom

We drove around the island visiting all the Beaches that were available for snorkelling and came to the conclusion that this was the better one compared with them all. Why? well:
life guards in attendance
showers and toilets ($1.00 entrance)
cafe and bar
covered seats and tables for picnics out of the sun
great street food next to seats
sandy beach
rocks! - Rocks mean fish.....
good little reef with a good selection of fish right off shore
flat water - this is the Caribbean side (the Atlantic side was too rough to snorkel when we were there)
easy parking
on the way to the airport.... we stopped off for a swim, snorkel, shower and food before hoping on the plane back to the UK.
Looking back now at our pics the water and coral was far better than any other beach in Tobago and Antigua. (note could have been due to the time of the year)

Wild Turtle Scuba Tobago Ltd.

Reviewed By Ruby H - Beccles, United Kingdom

If you search 'diving in Castara', or look at a map of dive centres in Tobago, Castara doesn't leap out... probably because Wild Turtle Scuba is listed under a different location ... not Castara... but muddling through all the info, we found Ritchie's number and gave him a call. The next day he dropped by, spoke to us, sized us up and then returned in the morning to pick us up, his van loaded with kit, wetsuits etc. He took us to Castara Bay's little nook (Heavenly Bay) and we did a beach dive which was... as the name confirms... absolutely heavenly.
Usually Ritchie has his own beautiful boat, but it was at anchor in a safe haven following the tropical storm that had struck the day before we arrived, so he called in his friend Captain Dave (aka Pinocchio) who took us out in his boat further along the coast and dropped us in for a one way return dive to Heavenly Bay. Again, beautiful, sheltered, and we saw at least 5 stingrays (residents of Castara Bay, I suspect, as rays can be spotted snorkelling as well) as well as gorgeous corals and loads of fish species. We got to 15m.
The next day Captain Dave took us further out, the day was choppier, but because both my husband and I are experienced divers, it was fine and once below we did a gentle drift dive while Ritchie caught eight of the insidious interlopers, the Asian Lion Fish. They are destroying local fish populations but also make good dinner, so the government encourages divers to spear them. This will not be to everyone's taste, so if Ritchie suggests a dive where he plans to do this and you would rather not, can I suggest you just tell him? He is an enthusiastic, happy and very experienced diver, a funny man, a kind man... so just talk to him.
The spearing is much like photography - it slows the dive down - so you have to be a buddy who is ok with that. And experienced enough not to be worried about not being the Divemaster's centre of attention occasionally. Anyone who has gone diving with a photographer will know what I mean - it's leisurely progress at best, with a buddy whose head is more often than not upside down in a hole! So, as the non-photographing/spear fishing buddy, you hang about and look at the micro life. That's ok, if you understand that's what's going to happen.
Anyway, we surfaced to calmer waters and had our fourth and last dive along a different part of Heavenly Bay's many reefs. Today, we got to 20m depth on the Lion Fish dive, but could have gone deeper if we had wanted to, there was absolutely plenty to see.
So, as experienced divers, we now know that there is no need to go anywhere else thanks to Ritchie, we had diving on our doorstep.
Ritchie, thanks mate, see you next time! You have made staying in beautiful Castara, perfect!

Coco Motion

The half-day cruise on board Coco Motion, our luxury 31 foot power boat, leaves heading along the Caribbean coast where we moor at a couple of secluded bays for some excellent snorkeling and beautiful marine scenery. During the cruise we sometimes see dolphins, which often like to come and play around the boat. All snorkeling equipment is provided, including life jackets for those who prefer to use them. The boat also has a bimini top which we put up for sun protection while the boat is moored. During the tour we serve soft drinks, bottled water, fresh fruits and our famous home-made carrot cake! We also offer private charters for those who prefer an exclusive tour on Coco Motion. We are happy to ‘tailor-make’ a tour to your individual requirements; snorkeling equipment and refreshments are provided. Also have you ever wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater? If you want to find out but aren’t quite ready to take the plunge into a certification course, Discover Scuba Diving will let you try scuba to see if you like it. We offer a version of this program, either in a pool or other body of water. You might try it while you’re on vacation in Tobago. While not an actual scuba certification, during the Discover Scuba Diving experience you’ll learn how to use scuba equipment in shallow water and get a quick and easy introduction to what it takes to explore the underwater world.
