Berrima District Museum

The Berrima District Museum is an outstanding, award winning, country museum that tells fascinating stories about people, places and objects of the Southern Highlands.

Don’t be fooled by the exterior of the building that houses the Berrima District Museum, the museum itself is well worth the money and extremely interesting to visit. My family and I recently visited over Christmas and spent a good hour or so wandering round the museum and reading all the signs of information. There is so much to see and read that you could easily spend half a day here. I was fascinated to read about the history, especially of the WWII German internees That were held prisoner here and admire the collection of items from days gone by. There was also another temporary art exhibition inside with works by Rembrandt which was wonderful to see with digital works and audio to listen to the stories. It is very clean inside and cool during the summer which was a welcome relief to the heat outside. I would definitely visit again when I’m next in the area.

Harper's Mansion

Reviewed By Dodger52 - Wollongong, Australia

The friend I was with had to quickly rush outside as she felt something strange that made her feel ill. Once outside she was OK, but was not prepared to go back in. She said she is very sensitive to phenomena. Apparently 3 children had died in the house over 100 yeas ago and 1 particularly gruesome death with a child dying when he fell into an open fire. So, the place is very interesting and worth a visit during their open days. It is historic over 135 years old and well restored and looked after. Is it haunted? I did not experience anything, who knows?

Had lovely visit. Social distancing was well respected and we enjoyed a great chat with the female staffer outside whilst we waited for our turn to head inside. Whilst some products are a little over priced, the items on special make up for it as does the fact that you only visit as a treat and for us it was a walk down memory lane! We spent way too much which meant we ate way too much on the drive home! Products were great, staff were warm, friendly and helpful & lolly swagman was one of the few stores respecting social distancing reqts. Looking forward to visiting again!
