I've been here several times. I never tire of hearing about the crapper room. The mansion is one of the nicest in Cayuga County. I always thought it was comical that Mrs. hid slaves in the carriage house that her husband didn't know about.

Merry Go Round Playhouse

The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival is an annual summer-long festival featuring professional Broadway caliber musical productions along with new musicals, presented in their earliest stages of development, in a series known as “The PITCH.” The festival offers productions at three different venues just minutes away from each other.

We went to see Ghost at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse and we all thought the performance was absolutely fantastic. The acting, singing and choreography were outstanding. The theater is small and intimate which guarantees you a great view of the stage no matter where you sit. I don’t think there is a bad seat in the house. The Merry Go Round is located at Emerson Park on beautiful Owasco Lake. They run different shows throughout the summer. I have seen a couple of shows here in the past and they are always fabulous. So choose a show and go to the MGR for a wonderful evening of entertainment.

Harriet Tubman surely had a place reserved for her in heaven. She was inordinately brave, generous and a true humanitarian. Her home is not yet an historical landmark but it should be and should be featured in every travel book detailing sites in upstate New York. For anyone interested in history, this is a must visit.

We saw a short film about the history of the Willard Memorial Chapel. A volunteer answered our questions and gave more detailed information. A man told us about the Tiffany Glass windows. This chapel has mosaic floors, gorgeous chandeliers, with decorated oak pews.

Auburn Public Theater

The Auburn Public Theater (APT) just celebrated its 10th anniversary, and the whole town of Auburn celebrated with them! What a wonderful gem this small multi-function spot is for our city! APT provides excellent meeting and performing space, and a small movie theater, right in the heart of downtown. The variety of acts, music and performers is amazing for a small city, and we rally round to support them. Eating dinner out in our new vibrant downtown followed by a concert/show/ performance/movie at APT is a mainstay for many here.

Bravo Carey and Angela! Here's to the next 10 years.

The Cayuga Museum of History and Art and Case Research Lab

The Cayuga Museum campus operates in three buildings: the mansion, the Case Research Laboratory, and the Carriage House Theater. The mansion is home to several changing exhibits each year as well as a permanent exhibit about Auburn Correctional Facility. The Case Research Laboratory is the home of talking movies, where Theodore Case invented the first commercially successful system of sound on film, which visitors can now explore on a guided tour to learn about the history of sound film. The Carriage House Theater is a recently renovated multi-purpose space used for museum and community events. Our mission is to provide a forum for the public to realize, interact with and appreciate Cayuga County’s shared past and unfolding present to help shape a better future.

This was an interesting museum to tour. The main building contained different artifacts with explanations including a beautiful Tiffany window. The second floor had the history of the Auburn prison which was used as a model for other prisons of the early 1800s. This prison was also the first place where the electric chair was used. This is a self-guided tour.
The other building on site is the lab that of Thomas Case used to invent the process for putting sound on film. More interesting history about what happened to Case’s work. There is a docent who explains Case’s lab and why he didn’t receive credit for his discovery.

Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center

The Schweinfurth Art Center is a multi-arts facility located in Auburn, New York, in the heart of the Finger Lakes. We offer five contemporary art exhibitions each year; art classes for children and adults; quilting and fiber arts workshops; Quilting by the Lake annual conference; multi-day fine arts workshops led by nationally known artists; music, poetry, and folk arts programs; and a gift shop that offers unique items. Stop by to visit today!

The main exhibit in our visit was a collection of works using manufactured objects: cables, hoses; lamps; strainers, and similar hardware and housewares, imaginatively arranged into large wall sculptures. A second exhibit was based on colored pencils held together with wires, in the form of three-dimensional sculptures. These, and other works, were clearly labors of love. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit; while exhibits will no doubt change, the overall ethos of the museum is likely to remain the same. I'd highly recommend a visit.

New Hope Mills Factory Store

Specialties Our store is the place to shop for all things New Hope Mills! We specialize in pancake & baking mixes. But we offer so much more! You will find many items in our store - organic, gluten free mixes, baking supplies, snacks, gift items, locally made items and more. Our cafe serves up fresh pancakes (try any variety NHM pancake or our featured limited edition flavor available in the cafe only!), eggs, sausage, and a variety of baked goods. Try our amazing espresso drinks made with fresh, locally roasted coffee beans. We also offer several flavors of 100% fruit smoothies. So much to see and taste! Come on over! History Established in 1823. New Hope Mills has a rich history. Most importantly, we have stood for "Quality Since 1823". Quality in service and products has set our company apart from the very beginning. The Mill was built in 1823 by Judge Charles Kellogg for local farmers to have their flour ground. It wasn't until the 1970's that a store was started, as a way to service those who wanted to purchase flour and flour-related products. New Hope Mills gradually grew into a traveler's destination, and the store offerings increased. Visitors to the old mill continually comment on how they love the nostalgia of the Mill and the covered bridge. It all bears witness of the "old days". Currently, the Mill is owned and operated by the Weed family. Leland Weed became the sole owner in 1953, then later passed it on to his sons. It has now moved to the 3rd generation in the Weed family. We thank you for supporting a local family business and helping to sustain a piece of the past.

We visited New Hope Mills on a busy Saturday for their grand re-opening celebration. The atmosphere, food, and service far exceeded our expectations.

The newly renovated cafe includes a welcoming dining space and a small store area with a nice variety of mixes, jarred goods, and other merchandise. We were greeted by several members of the staff, including Doug, the owner. Such a genuinely kind staff!

Saving the best for last- the food! We had the chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, eggs, and sausage and gravy. Huge portions, freshly made, and delicious. Very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity that you receive. A group of four of us ate, with drinks included, for under $30.

I highly recommend a visit to the New Hope Mills Cafe. Such a great little gem in Auburn, NY. We will definitely be returning!
