Lake Tinaroo

Reviewed By Boosilhen - Adelaide, Australia

Beautiful location. Good camp sites and excellent and very clean toilet facilities. Hang your own shower in the disabled toilet. we booked for four nights. Unfortunately our time here was spoiled by a group of men who arrived after dark on the third night and proceeded to play Bollywood music and party loudly all night. Raises the question of what to do about excessive noise when camping in a national park.

Hou Wang Temple

Reviewed By WorldTravla7 - Brisbane, Australia

This place gets five stars from me for the enthusiasm and amazing knowledge of tour-guide Graham alone. Graham has been involved with Hou Wang Temple and National Trust for decades and his intimate knowledge of the history of the temple, and the Chinese influence in the Tablelands is mind blowing. For $10 the experience is unbelievably worthwhile. I recommend starting in the museum and then do the guided tour which will last for an hour or so (or maybe longer if you ask questions, as Graham has so much knowledge to share). The day I went I was the only one of the tour and got Graham all to myself and asked plenty of questions. There is a big black rooster that hangs out there too, I am sure he is Tablelands famous already!

Hallorans Hill Regional Park

Reviewed By Susanne P - Mandurah, Australia

Easy access through town to the top of Hallorans Hill Lookout either on foot or by car to a nice park area at the top of the hill with parking place provided. Its not a really high hill in comparison to others in the area but the view across the tablelands is quite breathtaking. You can see for miles across the plains so its well worth a visit. Great picnic spot too. Its probably very popular with locals on the weekends.

Nandroya Falls

Reviewed By WorldTravla7 - Brisbane, Australia

Another FNQ beauty. This waterfall (one of numerous in the Cairns/Innisfail/Millaa Millaa area) is a bit of the main tourist radar, but it’s a corker.  Head toward Millaa Millaa from Innisfail along the Palmerston Highway and the falls are about halfway between the two. The entry is just of the road in a 100km/hr section of road and is very easy to miss (we almost did) and phone/Google Maps reception is minimal so keep your eyes peeled! There is a small carpark nearby and the pleasant rainforest walk to the falls will take about 30mins to an hour (depending on your speed and level of fitness). There is also an option to do a full circuit track (which we didn’t do) which is about 3.5kms. Nature is all around you as you head to the falls and whilst we spotted no cassowaries on our walk we did see where one had done its business, meaning you may just encounter one on your trip! The 50m falls themselves are spectacular and surprisingly free of people (we had the area at the base of the main falls to ourselves) and the large swimming hole provides great swimming and you can easily swim up the falls and bathe yourself in their powerful spray. Definitely worth a trek out to see – there are many other falls around the area too but given the beauty of this one you will want to stay a few hours at least. After your swim, you can head to Millaa Millaa for a coffee or check out some of the other falls nearby.

Mount Baldy

Reviewed By DeathBeforeDecaf - Cairns, Australia

This difficult walk to the 1017 m summit (above sea level) of Mount Baldy offers generous views of the Atherton Tableland and Lake Tinaroo. The walk is strenuous with steep sections and loose rock. Only fit and experienced walkers should attempt this track. The walking track ends at the summit and walkers can either return the way they came or continue onto Widow Makers hill (another 3 to 4 km).
