Quartier Montparnasse

This lively neighborhood is located in the 14th Arrondissement.

Montparnasse is the area we always try to stay when we visit Paris. It is away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist hot spots and this is exact what we like. We always stay at the Marriott Rive Gauche. The Montparnasse Cemetery is a tranquil spot to reflect, there is a street market right next to it on Saturdays... The energy of Montparnasse at night is just second to none: a real Mecca of cafes, bars, night clubs, restaurants, ice cream shops for all budgets and tastes, Galerie Lafayette is a great place for shopaholics, and visit the Tour Montparnasse of course for the sweeping views of the City of Lights.

Musee Bourdelle

Reviewed By emduggs12 - New York City, United States

I'll admit that I did not know Bourdelle before going here, but the quality of the museum itself is spectacular. I was there during the Balenciaga exhibition, which was so well done and surprisingly worked alongside the sculptures. The museum has a bunch of different rooms/sections which are all worth seeing. Everything has descriptions and the atelier is pretty cool. The garden is wonderful (bring a book!) and there are two other connected gardens in between the other buildings. I was very impressed with the overall layout and flow of the visit and it did not seem at all redundant. For me, this museum was in a very convenient location- so if you find yourself in the area I highly recommend stopping in for a quick visit. I have not seen (as far as I remember) any of his statues since, but it was still a fun experience. If you like this museum, I recommend the Rodin museum(s) and the Maillol (possibly the Zadkine because it is nearby the Bourdelle but also by far its inferior).

I'm surprised that many of the reviews of this is that it's hard to find - because I took a wrong turn and happened upon it. I was blown away!! (To tell the truth if I would have been looking for it I may not have found it!) A very moving memorial to one of the dark periods in Paris history. I wish I could have learned about it before going - but now learning about it afterwards is good, too. From Bir Hakeim Metro Station going away from the river, turn right on Rue Nélaton, memorial is about 100 feet down on the right behind ornate fence.
