The 10 Best Things to do Good for Kids in St. Brelade, Channel Islands

July 27, 2021 Fernanda Pittenger

St. Brelade, in the Jersey Islands, is home to several beautiful bays with golden sands. St. Brelade Bay is a great place for an active beach day—beachgoers enjoy canoeing, banana boat rides, trampolines and kayaking. Visit the Fisherman’s Chapel to see the perquage, a path from the chapel to the sea. Ancient law allowed a criminal to seek sanctuary in the chapel for eight days. On the ninth, he had to surrender or walk down the path to board a boat, which would carry him into permanent exile from the island.

Beauport Beach

This is a small beach on the southwest of the island. Easy to find if you google it. Beaches like St Brelade's are well developed and attractive to those who like this. But Beauport beach is completely undeveloped and very beautiful: one of the most lovely small beaches I have seen. I had to put a city in, and wrote St Aubin but it's a few miles from this.

Portelet Bay

Portelet bay again is one of my favourites. Buses run frequently from St. Helier. Portelet just has a few minor problems. There are lots of steep steps down to the bay and definitely not for the disabled or people are not good with their legs. Its easy going down, but very hard coming back up. Remember the saying, what goes down has to come back up. The beach is well worth visiting with a small island in the middle. Take your camera. There is a restaurant and bar at the top called the old portelet.

Les Ormes Resort

Les Ormes is Jersey's only 5 star self-catering family resort. We set out to offer you the very best self-catering family accommodation at reasonable prices. To achieve the Visit England 5 star rating across all of our properties, we have invested heavily in our facilities to meet the highest standards of facilities, comfort and cleanliness. Our 68 units of self-catering accommodation offer a range of sizes and locations, purpose-built to exceed the expectations of sophisticated guests. At the Les Ormes Resort itself, we have units from one two five bedrooms. Aiming to provide choices for couples, families and even multi-generation family groups, we can offer lodges with hot tubs, family units directly facing the pool, and the unique "Le Tir" building, recently developed to accommodate up to 12 people. For those looking for the full Jersey coastal experience, we have three bedroom cottages at La Pulente facing the sea and only a moment from Jersey's famous beach at St Ouen. If you're looking for an active break, Les Ormes really comes into its own, with an extensive range of exciting activities on site and further afield on our beautiful playground island. Our team at Les Ormes genuinely wants to help you enjoy your valuable time together. On our site at St Brelade, the jewel in our crown is our very fine 9 hole golf course with spectacular sea views. For non-golfers, our two pools and indoor tennis, football and gym facilities provide plenty of options for fun and exercise without even leaving the resort. Away from the resort, we offer an exciting range of outdoor activities. Walking in Jersey is a joy, with many miles of coastal paths offering breathtaking views. Jersey can also promise a fascinating network of "green lanes" with a 15 mph speed limit for those who want to explore safely by bicycle. And there's a range of other organised indoor and outdoor activities for adults and children that ensure that whatever the weather, the fun continues at Les Ormes!

We had a lovely 10 day stay at Les Ormes, despite COVID restrictions. The villa (we stayed in the Terrasses away from the pool/centre of resort) was peaceful and well appointed, we loved having our own hot tub! 40 mins walk or 5-10 mins drive from St Ouens bay, where we spent many afternoon surfing at Le Braye. Food at the Brasserie was delicious and their take away options were really handy. Always ready on time! Any requests//issues were dealt with very quickly - a broken washing rack was replaced, more beach towels and bath towels were freely available..... Would definitely go back!
