Don't skip the visitors center where there is an interesting exhibit on the history of the cemetery and some of its "inhabitants".

Super historical close to the Mort Homme Hill. Staff are very dedicated and it shows that they work hard. Worth the stop for sure. A short, but incredibly unique and awesome experience.

The memorial to the French regiments who fought at Mort Homme is eerie, beautiful and haunting in one go. A must see for those exploring the battlefields surrounding Verdun.

Butte de Vauquois

Reviewed By iWiebe - Utrecht, The Netherlands

One of the most striking places of the WW1 battleground to visit. The hill where the village of Vauquois used to be was turned into huge craters by mine warfare. Between 1915 and 1918 over 500 mines have been detonated by both sides without resulting in any significant advance.

Basilique Notre-Dame d'Avioth

The basilica of Avioth is a Gothic church from the 14th-15th century, with a surprising size for a village of population 150. It has been classified as a French Historic Monument since 1840. Its 'Recevresse', a flamboyant Gothic building separate from the rest of the church, is an architectural masterpiece unique for its kind. Each year in July, Our Lady of Avioth attracts pilgrims internationally.

Romagne 14-18

Reviewed By LKotsonas - Edina, United States

I can't recommend this place highly enough. Jean-Paul has been gathering artifacts left in the fields and woods in the area for decades. He's thoughtfully arranged these in a small museum. We took a morning tour of WW1 battlefields and the nearby American cemetery with Jean-Paul--he is an EXPERT and a wonderful storyteller. They also have a nice café for a quick bite with a nice selection of beers.
