Rocca Roveresca di Senigallia

Reviewed By KatrinaMolini - Corciano, Italy

Beautiful historical sight, worth visiting at least outside. The current appearance of the Fortress dates back to the Renaissance period: it was built between 1476 and 1482 by Giovanni Della Rovere, nominated Lord of Senigallia and Vicar of Mondavio by Pope Sisto IV, who was at the time his uncle Francesco Della Rovere. Now it’s a museum that hosts different kinds of exhibitions. Very picturesque!

Interesting space with beautiful curved architecture. A part of it was occupied by the market place, the rest seemed empty. It was a quiet morning and a nice stroll.

Rotonda a Mare

Reviewed By KatrinaMolini - Corciano, Italy

Probably, La Rotonda a mare is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Senigallia. Built in 1930’s it became very popular. The location is just perfect! You can see it from any beach on both sides of it. The shoreline is famous for its velvety sand and it’s so nice to take a swim there, with the lovely rotonda on the background. Too bad it was not open for visiting. It must be a wonderful point of view.

The Penelope guardian statue was created by Gianni Guerra (date of erection - 5 July 2004). She is found at the end of the pier at Porto di Levante, Senigallia’s harbor. Penelope was the wife of Odysseus in Homer‘s Odyssey. She represents the faithful wife that spends her days awaiting the return of her husband’s ship (for 20 years). By extension, the statue represents all women longing and waiting for their lover’s return.
