Lake McKenzie

Reviewed By Hervey2 - Hervey Bay, Australia

Such a beautiful fresh water lake, only the depth changes the colour, so turquoise in the shallows. Try cleaning your jewellery in the sand. I have cleaned my watch and watch face many times, that tells you how soft the sand is. So pure.

Carlo Sand Blow

Reviewed By lizziebeth75 - Wellington Point, Australia

An easy walk; some stairs (handy tip: take a water bottle) and then rewarded with spectacular views of the amazing sandblow. Kids: Take your boogie board if you want the thrill of riding down the sand dune. Great little adventure for families for an hour or two. Beautiful to watch the sunset if you’re timing is right (check sunset times)

Freedom Whale Watch

Freedom III is a comfortable 58ft power catamaran which operates ¾ day whale watch cruises from the Great Sandy Straits Marina in Urangan Harbour. Departing at 9:30 and returning after 4:00pm allows you plenty of time with the awe-inspiring humpback whales in Platypus Bay. The cruise along pristine Fraser Island’s western beaches can offer sightings of dingoes, schooling fish and numerous sea birds. Expert commentary by our knowledgeable skipper will keep you entertained as well as DVD’s on the plasma TV. Colouring activities and soft toys will keep the children amused and if they are tired we have 3 double beds. Home-baked morning tea, tropical buffet lunch as well as fruit and cheese platters for the return trip are all included as well as tea, coffee, water and soft drinks all day. With maximum passenger numbers of 45 and three levels of viewing your whale watch experience will be memorable, informative and uncrowded. Outside of whale season Freedom III is available for Mother shipping charters. These trips are usually for 3 days and 2 nights and fish the abundant waters of Fraser Island. Get a group together for some great fishing action with experienced guides in smaller boats. The month of November is great for sportsfishing in Hervey Bay with the migrating juvenile black marlin visiting these waters. We work in Conjunction with Hervey Bay Fly and Sportfishing to provide Mothershipping for his groups of guests. Freedom III can also be hired for private day charters or overnight trips on the Great Sandy Strait. Your choice of activities: crabbing, boom-netting, swimming, sight-seeing and cruising the sheltered waterways between Fraser Island and the Mainland.

K'gari

Reviewed By natalieridley - Brisbane, Australia

K’gari is the most beautiful place I have ever visited. This remarkable island takes my breath away every single visit. Highly recommend a trip over here. We camped for 7 nights in October in various parts of the island. Highlights were seeing the many sea turtles at sandy cape, swimming with the turtles at lake Allom, the spectacular Lake McKenzie, a cold schooner at the orchid beach pub & the indescribable beauty of the western side of the island. Do yourself a favour and get over to K’gari.

Double Island Point Lighthouse

Reviewed By NewTravelJourneys - Queensland, Australia

A great shirt hill mountain walk direct from Double Island Point beach. This beach and lighthouse is only accessible by 4wd - along either Teewah or Rainbow Beach (conditions permitting). The beautiful ocean beach driving is scenic the entire way and well worth the exciting 4w Drive experience. Bring your kayaks, SUP, surf boards and fishing rods too, or camp along Teewah Beach. The walk to the lighthouse is on a slight incline and fairly easy, great for young kids to experience. During whale season (May to November) you will see and hear the beautiful mammals - the whales roar is quite the experience. Great photographic opportunity around the rocky, natural bushland and ocean. You will see Rainbow Beaches famous coloured sands, and the visiting celebrities to the region. Various celebrities visit this beautiful secluded spot. We always spot large sea turtles, dolphins and rays. This breathtaking lighthouse walk is an amazing experience for the entire family.
