Canopy Adventure Barva Volcano

Canopy Adventure "Barva Volcano" is located only 35 min. from the international airport and 40 min. from San Jose; on the province of Heredia at the foothills of the Barva Volcano. It was established in 1998 by a Forest Engineer on a private reserve of over 400 acres. Placed in the middle of a Cloud Forest, at about 7,000 ft above sea level, there are a total of 13 platforms and 8 cables crisscrossing a river while traveling on a protected biological corridor. Starting with easy cables and leaving the best for the end, a 600 ft. run over an amazing waterfall. Although the cables are unforgettable, the adventure is also about the forest, the guides love to share their knowledge of this unique environment with you on a nature walk that is worth the day trip by itself. Suitable for all ages, the youngest adventurer to do this ride was no more than 2 years old and the oldest one yet, 88 springs. Come fly through the cloud forest on this unforgettable adventure right in the Central Valley!!!!

We took a 2-hour tour of Toucan Ranch and were so impressed, very knowledgeable and passionate tour guide, cutest animals ever, loved the sloths and their "nursery up thru college" training. I would love to go back to volunteer and stay in their guest house. They are doing very important work there, and it was a great way to see nature up close. Much better setting than a zoo -- for both animals and people!

This was the most amazing experience of bird watching I have seen. It is set up with platforms at the top of a hill next to a valley so that you are at canopy height where the birds hang out. We saw many birds up close and then took a short hike on a trail in the valley where we saw frogs, lizards, and butterflies. Dave Jr. was our guide and was great explaining everything we saw. I would most highly recommend stopping at Dave and Dave's for a couple hours. It will be well worth it.

A real true gem in Santa Bárbara de Heredia. The property is beautiful, but most of all it is nicely managed. The themed terraces offer a beautiful option to learn about different plants. We really enjoyed the self guided tour though the botanical gardens. Pretty much every plant and every tree is labeled with accurate information. In our visit, we took the lunch option. Food quality was top notch, and service was impeccable. The main building is spacious and sober. The restaurant is well ventilated and has beautiful views of the central valley. We ended up our day with a visit to the Meadery, where we were treated nicely by Michael and Alejandra, who explained the mead making process to us and offered a free tasting of a wonderful Jabuticaba mead. We had an amazing time.
