Walls of Monteriggioni

We got to visit 5 hilltowns in Tuscany, all different in the experience they offered. Monteriggioni was the smallest of the towns we visited but it gave a very good perspective of a walled town which was more difficult to see in the larger towns like Sienna. The view of the countryside were gorgeous and the town was easy to see in an hour or 2. We had a great wine tasting experience with a lovely woman who was very proud of her wines and was especially entertaining. Wine was great too.

We had an amazing time touring Lornano. We learned much about the process from vine to cellar to bottle. The tasting was just as spectacular as the tour. Great wine, fabulous experience. Thank you Teresa

Centro storico di Monteriggioni

Centro Storico di Monteriggioni is the historical centre of this little medieval town, located in Tuscany Region, in the center of Italy. This town is really charming is a tiny medieval town on the hop of a hill and totally surrounded by wall. Really it is a medieval town! We visited this town with my 3 years old daughter (in August-2019) and all of us enjoyed a lot. We walked around all town, we went up to the walls and see the very beautiful views of Tuscany, we visited the main church (Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta), the Armor Museum (Museo delle Armature), taste and buy local wines (Castello di Monteriggioni Winery), eat in one of the restaurants of the main square (Il Feudo, excellent local food and wine) and obviously my daughter run, play, laugh, enjoy and eat with us. So, a wonderful medieval town with a very nice walls. Top in the region! We visited in October 2019 (it took entirely too long for me to post this) and had a lovely time at this winery. It's a charming, small, family-owned winery with a stunning view of the Chianti hills. The wine was so delicious we had 3 bottles shipped home. Lovely people, beautiful rooftop views and outstanding wine...what more could you ask for?

Although a small museum, it left us with a very pleasant aftertaste. They are not only expose artifacts, but are organized in creative compositions which represent battle scenes. Some medieval armor and weapons are left out for people to try on which brings a very unusual experience. I’m a 50 year old man and I had some of the best moments of my life playing with weapons - imagine how happy kids would be visiting this place! Many thanks to the owners and maintainers of this amazing museum for such a memorable pleasure.
