Masjid Quba

Reviewed By BATKOO - Dubai, United Arab Emirates

When Prophet Muhammad (Peace & Blessings be upon him) migrated from Makkah to Madinah , Quba is the place on the outskirts of Madinah where the Prophet (Peace & blessings be upon him), accompanied by Sayedina Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and first stayed and built the first Masjid of Islam. My first visit to this historical Masjid was in 1982.It was small but had its own reverence and awe.In my recent visit in February 2019,I found a new Masjid has been constructed which is much bigger than the original one and is reasonably impressive. An authentic Hadith states that who ever offers two rakahs of voluntary prayers in this Masjid, he gets a reward equal to one Umrah.I was lucky enough this time that I not only offered many voluntary prayers but got the privilege of offering Duhr in congelation. The Masjid was almost full including its court yard. The expansion is impressive but wash rooms are very substandard and very poorly maintained. They need to be upgraded and maintained properly. It also needs a proper eating place to be provided to enable pilgrims spend more time in this Historical Place.

Surrounded by distinctive high walls on the eastern side of Prophet's Mosque. During normal times people can be seen flocking the viewing platform just for a peep over the grill and saying some prayers but due to Covid 19 pandemic no entry to the viewing platform allowed. Or at least that's what happened to us few times we tried during the National Day long weekend.

Historical sites in Medina, Masjid Al Ghamamah and Masjid Saidina Abu Bakar are located near to each other. Sometimes people confuse the two. To differentiate them, Masjid Al Ghamamah has many domes while Masjid Saidina Abu Bakar is much smaller and has only one dome. The area is located southwest of the Prophet's Mosque and a short walk away from the Holy Quran exhibition. The area surrounding the two masjids has been into a park with benches. Good for picnicking with family.
