The 10 Best Things to do Good for Big Groups in Gaeta, Lazio

January 30, 2022 Jacquiline Darosa

Set between Rome and Naples amid the so-called Ulysses Riviera, gorgeous Gaeta overlooks the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. Its history as a resort dates back to Imperial Rome. Nearby sites include the first-century BC mausoleum of general Lucius Munatius Plancus. Its old town is mostly medieval, showcased by narrow alleys, the massive 13th-century castle and the 12th-century Cathedral of Assunta e Sant'Erasmo. For relaxing, lovely and central Serapo Beach is a favored locale.

when the need to stay away from noisy cities makes you feel you need a break, a walk on the rustic forest road of this place is what you will need to recharge your batteries with positive energy. All the way you will have amazing views. Unfortunately, the grotto is not fully opened because of stairs that need restructuring.

I visited this beach in October when the weather was still warm and the crowds gone. I didn't need to rent a chair or umbrella, I just set up my towel on the sand and enjoyed a beach with about 50 people on it. I did use the toilet at one restaurant when I bought a bottle of water from them. Amazing to walk the beach, swim in the warm water and have it almost to myself. Loved it.

300 Gradini along with the other surounding beach establishments in this part of the coast is very nicely situated, with nice sand, turcoise water, green forest behind and friendly staff. A bit hard to find parking, but up the road we found a paid parking by a hotel/restaurang. If you don't feel like paying for the beach entrance, there is also a public beach. also very pretty a few hundred meters further up the beach closer to Gaeta.

If you like historic places, and are looking for an out of the way place, that is less crowded, less touristy, and the with real Southern Italy charm, then Gaeta is the place for you. There are Roman ruins, small museums, and historic old Gaeta. Sperlonga close by also has a museum and Roman ruins and grotto. There are several very affordable, clean and renovate bed and breakfasts, and vacation rentals close to the beach, or with ocean views. Gaeta is a delight discovery. I was there during the Christmas festival of lights, which was a special treat. Wednesday is market day, if you like local open markets. Stenta is the best pastry shop in Gaeta with two locations.
