The 10 Best Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Niagara Falls, New York (NY)

December 8, 2021 Vergie Nakamoto

A popular spot for getting wowed or soaked amid natural splendor, Niagara Falls attracts curious spectators and adventurous honeymooners from around the world. The splendid main attraction - more than six million feet of water cascading over a rocky crest - sits partially in the United States and partially in Canada. The U.S. side has recently been busy promoting other activities to lure visitors. Venues like the Aquarium of Niagara offer parents fun and engaging alternatives for kids, after or in between visits to the Falls. Outdoor recreation such as hiking, biking, fishing and camping can be found at the Niagara Falls State Park. The storied history of attempts to conquer the majestic Falls is captured at the Daredevil Museum; the Schoellkopf Museum concentrates on the history and geology. There's more to the Falls than, well, the Falls, including a wide array of dining and lodging options, from budget to upscale. This awe-inspiring region makes for an exhilarating and multi-faceted getaway

We booked online for a taxi from Buffalo to Niagara Falls, on a recommendation. On Monday 22nd May our flight was delayed and we phoned to let them know. The driver, Dan, was waiting at baggage collection, and was very helpful. He drove us to Niagara telling us lots of useful information about the area. We booked our return journey for Wednesday morning, and Dan arrived in plenty of time for our flight. We can highly recommend this service, and a big thank you to Dan for looking after us.

My family loves escape the room venues. For this one it was mom and dad, a 14 year old and 11 year old. We chose to do the speakeasy al Capone room. Of the three options this was the most family friendly (the other two are a zombie room and a horror/saw movie reference). As far as difficulty the horror room is easiest, then the speakeasy, and zombie room is hardest. The puzzles were similar to other escape rooms—find the clues, do some decoding, lots of guessing. You are given 3 clues so you can ask for help. We used 2. However the gentleman gave us lots of hints when we were completely off track. Couldn’t have done it without his help. All members had a great time and we escaped! Setting is great too—good location right next to old falls street. It’s in an old bank basement so it feels appropriately authentically creepy. Can recommend.

Niagara Aerospace Museum

Wanted to get away for my birthday and decided to go to Niagara Falls to see the aerospace museum which focuses on the aviation history of upstate NY and includes actual aircraft from Curtiss Wright, Bell Aerospace and the Consolidated Aircraft Co. They had a unique one of a kind Cunningham-Hall GA-36 built in Rochester NY (was first plane to feature double motion wing flaps devised to lower landing speeds and not flying speeds) which was exciting to see as well as an actual control panel used by a mission controller during the Apollo moon missions. I love space so it was nice to see what items they had including a Lunar Ascent Engine and Rocket Belt (like seen in "Thunderball"). The place includes a few nice helicopters and lots of items celebrating the aviation history of NY. Being on the airport grounds, you might get lucky to see various planes taking off or landing. Highly recommended museum for history and aviation buffs.

There were pamphlets and information to take but the best part were the nice people working there. You could ask any questions and they knew the answer. It was also very clean.

Niagara Wine Trail USA

Just completed a private Niagara Wine Trail tasting tour as a couple - what a kick! Booked the tour through Amore di Vino Tours - Denise was wonderful in helping us book this trip. Our driver - Harold - was polite, friendly and engaging and arrived early to pick us up. The car he drove was clean and comfortable and roomy enough for us to purchase wine all along our tour. We booked a 7 hour tour and visited 8 wineries (Freedom Run - Arrowhead - Victorianbourg - A Gust of Son - Schulze - Spring Lake - Leonard Oakes and Flight of Five). Our tour included lunch for two along with a cheese tray and desserts. We both went with salads which were fantastic! The cheese and dessert trays remained untouched until we got home but both were good and contained way more than we could eat. This was a beautiful drive through WNY countryside and had fantastic views and small towns to see on our travels. This was our first time wine tasting and couldn't be happier!

St. Mary of the Cataract R. C. Parish

Reviewed By N4156PHbillb - Pueblo, United States

We attempted to visit the Parish a number of times during our 4 day stay in Niagara Falls. We went back on Sunday during the scheduled mass and found it open. We stayed for mass and were able to see much of the interior beauty before they closed the sanctuary. This and other religious institutions have suffered from vandalism and stolen artifacts so they were forced to lock the doors when there isn't mass scheduled. Truly a shame as the interior is beautiful. The pipe organ is absolutely stunning and as we were there for mass heard it played. Incredible!

I was mesmerized by the salt water fish tanks - one with beautiful fish and a guide to identify them (education with fun, parents), and the other with small stingrays and sharks. All were very active. I went mid-week and was the only person in the pool. Water temp is a bit cool, but the pool is quite large - more than typical at a lot of hotels.
