Chef Jodi Abel led a group of 75 Hillel of San Diego parents, students, alumni, and community supporters in a fun and memorable virtual cooking experience, making three different latke and sauce recipes for Hanukkah! With her positive energy, great storytelling, and truly exquisite fresh ingredient recipes, in spite of cooking in our individual kitchens in places around the country, we felt like one community because of Chef Jodi! I also want to give a shout out to Chef Jodi's emcee Dani, who read questions from our group as they popped up in the chat box. Chef Jodi was happy to answer them and address questions in real time as we mixed, cooked, and fried together. That touch made the whole experience feel as if we were together at a cooking party. I've heard from guests that they would love to do this again. I can't think of a better endorsement of Lajollacooks4u!

Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Birch Aquarium at Scripps is the public exploration center for the world-renowned Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego. Perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the aquarium features more than 60 habitats of fishes and invertebrates from the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest to the tropical waters of Mexico and the Caribbean. An interactive museum showcases research discoveries by Scripps scientists on climate, Earth and ocean science.

This is not an aquarium with dancing dolphins and masses of fish--it's an educational and research facility with excellent exhibits for public consumption. One side has a first rate series of well-labeled tanks for the PNW and tropical environments and wonderful seahorses (the aquarium has a successful breeding program with daily tours) and the other side has educational exhibits, primarily for children (my opinion, anyway). In between, outside of the exhibits, there are open tanks and volunteers so kids can feel sea cucumbers and the like. Great views. There's a very good gift shop and a snack truck outside the ticketed area. I got there by public bus -- and it's a steep walk of about 1/3 mile to the aquarium. There is parking if you have a car.

I love the Lodge at Torrey Pines but this was my first time going to the spa. I wasn't too impressed with the spa facilities (although I liked their skin/hair products) buttttt the massage! WOW! Danielle, if you're reading this THANK YOU (again) for giving me the absolute best massage of my life. I've never had such a great massage before. She was able to get out all my knots and was so professional, kind, and just overall amazing. Very grateful my reservation was booked with her and I will absolutely be back to see her. She did wonders! My back feels better than it has in ages and I've been sleeping much better since. So grateful!
