Musee Memoires 39-45

History is written by the winners, and that of the losers and the people who endured a war tend to be lost. This is a wonderful museum that encompasses the memories of the Allies, the Germans who held the area, and the Bretons who endured war, deprivation, and occupation.

France has many excellent provincial art galleries - and this is one of the best. Permanent collection includes Pont Aven artists, Breton artists from 19th century and Sevres porcelain. The current exhibition of Dufy has a focus on his textile printing works (woodcuts on silk) - very enjoyable, even if you're not a fan of his paintings English commentary on some works via QR code on your smartphone - bring your headset Highly recommended

Cathedrale Saint-Corentin

This medieval Gothic cathedral is perhaps the city's most prominent architectural landmark.

Reviewed By Morvoren - Truro, United Kingdom

This cathedral is quite rightly a National Monument. Admission is free. The Gothic architecture is amazing outside and in. The interior is light and spacious and the ambiance is relaxed. It is worth doing a little research before your visit to get the most out of it, especially if you don't speak French.

Musee de la Faience de Quimper

Only a few rare cities’ names are linked to an art or a passion. Quimper has the luck to be one of them. Associated with earthenware for over 300 years, today Quimper has a museum worthy of this great artisan and industrial tradition. The earthenware museum will give you the opportunity of an enriching trip through the centuries. The exhibition of 500 pieces exposed, some of which are unique, is regularly renewed, thanks to a collection of 2000 works whether religious, historical, scenes of daily life or abstract drawings, all fixed in this noble and beautiful material. Your visit will lead you to understand the entire manufacturing process, the different methods and stages of production. Then, you will dive into the birth and evolution of the Quimper style but also in the history of the different factories that monopolized the activity of Locmaria district. This tour will take you between Marseille, Nevers, Rouen to the bank of Odet.

I don't like ceramics exactly. But I do like history. And it seems ceramics has been there every step of the way. And is one of the few artifacts that survives over time. This museum in Quimper was a nice surprise, offering detailed history of the faience world in France along with a step-by-step rundown on how ceramics are made. And of course, at the end, a well-stocked museum shop. The only downsides: this stuff is expensive, so be prepared. And our particular guide was not always forthcoming with information. But was ready to answer specific questions.

Maison dite de la duchesse Anne

The House known as ‘Duchess Anne’s House’ is a particularly well-preserved example of a lantern house, the lantern being the emblematic architectural principle of the town during the Renaissance. Visitors will find the house, with its covered interior courtyard sheltering a monumental fireplace and a spiral staircase of elaborately sculpted oak, which enables movement between the rooms in the front and rear of the house's three floors.

Really interesting visit to an architectural treasure built in 1530. This renaissance private house shows off the wealth of its owners and was literally built to impress visitors. The highlight of the architecture is no doubt the marvelous sculpted wooden staircase. The ticket is very cheap and a visit will cost you about half an hour to an hour. The friendly lady at the entrance was so kind to tell us more about the house and she pointed out lots of interesting details. Money well spent, if you ask me.

Good family trip ( 2 hours with a 3 year old) Mix of aquarium and birds. Bird show well worth seeing. Close up experience with some majestic birds. Well kept animals and exhibitions and friendly enthusiastic staff. Lots of features described in English as well as French although the bird show narrated in French wouldn’t affect overall understanding and experience if you weren’t fluent.
