2. Kronstadt-fortress and the sea gates of the city

Tetra Spb

Our unusual city located in the delta of the Neva River is built on 42 islands. So it is written in all the guidebooks. And it's true, but not really! Because there is another island about which the founder of the city Peter 1 wrote "Guard Kronstadt more than your life, do not keep it, Petersburg will fall!" A small island located in the Gulf of Finland drew the attention of Peter in 1704. On all sides, except for one-southern, it is  surrounded by shallow depths. . And  only in one place nature itself came to Peter for help, where is deep (17 m) and narrow (200 m) deepening on the seabed represents the only possible passage for ships to this day! It was here that the tsar built the first fort, and it was in this way that from 1704 to this day the enemy's foot did not go to St. Petersburg. This tour is for those who love history and the sea!

3. Kronstadt Private Tour

MOST Petersburg

Private tour to the military port city in Russia located near St. Petersburg, which became open to visitors only in 1996 Kronstadt is an unusual suburb of St. Petersburg. Located on the island of Kotlin in the Gulf of Finland, the city throughout its history served as the sea shield of St. Petersburg and the capital of the Baltic Fleet of Russia. It was here that the world’s first icebreaker was built. Kronstadt is simply fascinating. Subtle atmosphere of the port city, strict canal lines, the magnificent Naval Cathedral. Most recently, Kronstadt could be reached only with a special pass, today it is one of the most beautiful historical districts of St. Petersburg, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Kronshtadt has a lot in common with St. Petersburg: the Admiralty, the Summer Garden, the Gostiny Dvor, the Blue and Green bridges, and even its own cannon that gives a mid-day shot.

We booked for the Swan Lake ballet on 25 December 2019, with travel date on 24 May 2020, through U Visit Russia. . Due to the Covit19 pandemic we were unable to visit Russia nor attend the ballet. Two tickets were purchased for US$465.50. U Visit Russia was advised of not being able to attend and agreed to pay a full refund but there would be a delay due to the number of cancellations. After some time no refund was forthcoming and U Visit Russia was again contacted by email and we were advised that due to the volume of cancellations the refund would be credited to our credit card within 9 weeks. Nothing and again they were contacted by email but no response was ever received. No refund was ever received. Nothing!! The lesson is to beware of ever dealing with this company.

I would 100% recommend a 48 hr tour of St. Petersburg with NP Tours. Our guides, Olga & Evgeniy were fantastic – we were picked up at the cruise terminal and despite the traffic, we managed to get to all our destinations and had enough time to visit & explore each attraction. We visited Peterhof Lower Park & Upper Gardens and saw the Samson Fountain ‘show’ which is a must-see. We had lunch on a boat tour on the river & canals of St. Petersburg and then spent the afternoon visiting The Church of our Savior on the Spilled Blood and the Peter & Paul cathedral; both have great historical significance and are beautifully decorated inside & out. Former members of the Royal Family are buried at the latter – Olga is extremely knowledgeable on the former monarchy and gave us a great insight into their past. She speaks fluent English and is very informative on all subjects related to the sights we visited, inclusive of general history regarding the city’s past. We visited the Pushkin (formerly Tsarskoye Selo) and Catherine's Palace – beat the large groups and crowds with our private tour! The park and Palace interiors are stunning, especially the ‘Amber Room’ which was a highlight – very unique! We took a walking tour on Nevsky Prospect & visited St. Isaac's Cathedral before taking a tour of the Hermitage Museum and State Rooms of the Winter Palace. The extensive art collection was amazing and I would most definitely visit again! Many thanks to Olga & Evgeniy for such a wonderful experience, I would suggest anyone visiting St. Petersburg take this tour!
