Termoli (Molisano: Térmle) is a town and comune (municipality) on the Adriatic coast of Italy, in the province of Campobasso, region of Molise. It has a population of around 32,000, having expanded quickly after World War II, and it is a local resort town known for its beaches and old fortifications. Once it was known only as a fishing port, but in the new millennium it is a favourite resort for Italian families.

Borgo Medievale di Termoli

Reviewed By preglad - New York, United States

My memory, over a lifetime of extensive drive visits all over Italy, is bookmarked with a personal COE selection of Hall of Fame mid-size candidates less commonly engaged. Among them (and not entirely out if the neighborhood) are for polar different Vieste and Lecce in Apulia. Newest to that revered category is Borgo Medievale di Termoli, which somehow suggest a little of both, yet retaining its own unique character in the process. Older Termoli is an ironic alternate: in a flash either chic or cozy, urbane or seafaring, intimate or worldly. It is in some ways what for me Taormina in Sicily- lately overwhelmed in elite surrender - used to be, infinitely photogenic in varied options while never losing sight of its primordial simpler values. It's a town in which to fall in love, and in the absence of such fortune, instead with which to do so. Termoli makes for a perfect and goal needless passeggiata stroll. Doubles resound: On a cool night, I might choose a small cigar, warm afternoon a nocciolo gelato to my wife's deep chocolate. Termoli's a dual battery a day better served by two meals and a mid-afternoon or later evening snack/drink rather than three. Though there are fine meat options as well, proof of Termoli's legitimacy as a great seafood town is the central massive pesceria behemoth open only to commercial establishments and resembling a Wall Street Stock Exchange. Here fish is bought in blocks of multiple cases by bidding with one hand recognized for being held higher than thirty surrounding it. If three surrounding regions want seafood, they may well find themselves in the midst of that particular incessant competition. Termoli adjusts beautifully to varied intentions and interests. or three nights rather than a checked-off half day - if possible. Termoli is a very relaxing town as well. There is no massive list of check-offs required for a meaningful encounter here. One's unhurried eye, sans any book, directs attention to what is best not missed. My wife and I are currently eating and walking our way through a wonderful birthday primavera week in Termoli. For those who prefer summer, it's all a little more challenging, but I imagine the payoff is more festivals and the immediate surrounding lovely beaches. Termoli's Borgo Medievale is infinitely adaptive and ready for "to each one's own".
