The 10 Best Sights & Landmarks in Paros, South Aegean

June 27, 2021 Phylicia Berquist

There are beaches for everyone on Paros—families, partiers, watersports enthusiasts, honeymooners. Anyone can find their perfect stretch of golden sand. The same breeze that rustles orange and pomegranate trees will power your kitesurfing or windsurfing session. In the capital city of Parikia, make sure to pay your respects at the Byzantine "church of 100 doors" (Panagia Ekatontapillani) and visit the seaside ruins of a medieval castle built from the marble remains of an ancient temple.

I enjoyed riding with Thanasis farm so much I made a repeat visit. Great horses, great attention to all riders including catering to all levels even in mixed groups (they took me off separately from a less experienced group for a great gallop, to make sure I had a great ride). The horses are well trained and kept, they are responsive, with personality. Swimming with the horses was an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend Thanasis Farm if you are looking for excellent riding on Paros.

Petra Farm

Petra is a family-run, sustainable farm located on the beautiful island of Paros, in Greece. We specialise in the production of Mediterranean crops that are well suited to the distinctive microclimates of our farmland. The olives, capers, oregano, lavender, figs, and grapes that we grow are only some of the wide array of our high-quality packaged products that embody the flavours of Greece through their taste and aroma. The whole cycle of production, from cultivation and harvest, to processing and packaging, takes places at the farm, allowing us to oversee and control the quality of every item we produce. We also offer customised tours where you get to enjoy walking around the farm and learning about the local crops that we grow, how we grow them, as well as how we harvest and process them. After the tour we provide a tasting of our products on our balcony, perched above Kolimbithres and overlooking the idyllic bay of Naoussa.

I can’t fully describe the immense pleasure it was meeting the wonderfully talented and incredibly competent group of young farmers. More than just farming they are land stewards who respect and cultivate growth sustainably and with zeal and commitment. The tour and tasting was a perfect way to get more in touch with the scene beyond the tourist beaches and restaurants. Alkis, Clairey and Claire were open hearted kind and informative and passionate about their lives and the health of the land and of Paros. This is a not to be missed experience.

I highly recommend waking up early to see this church (and the surrounding lanes of Paroikia old town) in the morning light when it is still, quiet and glorious. At 7am the entrance gate opens and it'll just be you and a handful of devout locals attending morning mass. Beat the heat of the day and avoid the crowds of tourists, and get the best photos. Amazing stone Byzantine architecture with ancient marble remnants from an earlier temple around the central courtyard, it is a truly beautiful church and well worth visiting. I found it to be a lovely, calming, sacred space in amongst the hustle and bustle of tourists and cafes, and the perfect way to start my day.

Topical Cycladic village. Extremely clean and friendly. I highly recommend a visit in the early morning if you are in Páros. Don’t forget to visit the cafe by the big church and meet Konstantinos the owner.. he serves the best lemonade in town. Truly a gem.
