The museum promotes a greater understanding of the Mississippi Civil Rights Movement and its impact by highlighting the strength and sacrifices of its peoples. Visitors will witness the freedom struggle in eight interactive galleries that show the systematic oppression of black Mississippians and their fight for equality that transformed the state and nation. Seven of the galleries encircle a central space called This Little Light of Mine. There, a dramatic sculpture glows brighter and the music of the Movement swells as visitors gather.

The museum is amazing. You can step into the jail cell or watch videos of what led to the civil rights movement. The museum is filled with people and events that are displayed from the floor to the ceiling. We didn't have enough time to see the upstairs, so be sure to allow enough time to see everything. It is very moving to see how men and women believed in a better world for their families and what the sad reality of it was like for them to do so.

We stopped in here during a cross country drive and wish we lived nearby! (Or maybe it is better for our wallets that we don't! We wanted to buy one of everything!) The place is HUGE and so ORGANIZED! Seriously, the most organized and well designed space in any architectural salvage place we have ever set foot in, anywhere. We were able to quickly find the few small items we were seeking--the number of choices were truly stunning. The staff was helpful and friendly. Prices were really reasonable. If you need doors, windows, vintage hardware, mantles, or really, ANYTHING for your vintage home, you will probably find it here. We wished we had a full day to spend poking through every section of the warehouse. There were so many great finds. I saw dozens of items I would have loved to have turned into functional art pieces, the exact windows we have in our 1931 brick cottage, hundreds of gorgeous interior and exterior doors, millwork, flooring, beautiful vintage barnwood, hardware of every possible variety, advertising pieces, the works. Truly a vintage lover's paradise!
