August 11, 2021 Terina Blouin

Whether you're looking for sandy beaches, rocky coves, tranquil villages or mountain scenery, Spain's Costa Brava has something to offer you. Situated in the north-east of the country overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the Costa Brava region enjoys hot summers and mild winters, making it an all-year-round holiday destination. There are plenty of opportunities in the Costa Brava to play golf, tennis or football, as well as to take part in water sports. The Sant Daniel Valley on the western side of the Gavarres hills has mountain biking and trekking paths with stunning views. If you are looking for a cultural activity, the Archaeological Museum in Banyoles is housed in a Gothic palace and has displays of paleontology and pottery as well as archaeology. Modern art lovers must not miss the Theatre Museum in Figueres which has a collection of Salvador Dali's paintings. At the end of the day, if you still have some energy, there is no shortage of nightlife in towns such as Lloret de Mar.

I've just come back from a week with Canigou Cycling in the Central Pyrenees and I have to admit this was the best weeks cycling ever. I went to challenge myself on some of the famous cols that are used in the Tour de France and I wasn't disappointed. The length of rides, the routes and amount of climbing were all spot on with a welcome rest day in the middle of the tour. I'm 53 and one of my cycling companions was 60 and we all managed the tough rides so don't think this is for young people only. Of course, no holiday is complete with out good accommodation and food and neither of these were lacking in any way. Just be careful of the prices of drink in France which is much higher than in Spain. Dirk is an excellent guide and nothing was too much trouble to make the tour enjoyable and memorable. Don't wait for a special occasion, treat yourself now.

On this tour we are going to visit the Girona coast, christened 100 years ago as the Costa Brava. The name is due to its unique rocky, rugged and cut shape coastline, composed of small coves surrounded by pine forests and lapped by crystal water. Its natural wealth and beauty is apparent in several territories and protected areas, such us Cap de Creus, the Emporda Marshes and the Marine Reserve Medes islands. The fame of Costa Brava is also due to its villages. Small fisherman towns, with whitewashed walls and narrow winding streets, today still retain their charm. This area has historically been a point of entry, transit, and settlement for different cultures and civilizations. Each has left its footprints, which is evidenced by the Greek and Roman sites in Empuries. Our intention is to show in one day the most representative and emblematic sites along the northeastern shores of Catalunya, places of unsurpassable beauty that will give you a taste of all this area has to offer.

Inclusions: All taxes, fees and handling charges, Live commentary on board, Local guide, Transport by air-conditioned coach with free Wi-Fi, Boat tickets, Empuries admisions

The five of us got picked up an hour late from original start time. We waited outside for a while with the company saying that the guide was caught in traffic. 55 minutes was too long. This was a bummer. Another couple from a hotel were also picked up 80 minutes late. They missed breakfast waiting around early for the agreed time. Company send an apology. thankfully we did not have any plans in late afternoon. Guide extended the end time. He also bought small snacks for everyone to make up for late start. He was friendly and kind. Although my mom wanted more picture pause during the tour.

This is an excellent full day tour of the Costa Brava plus a stop at a Medieval village dating from the 12th century. The tour is both informative and fully packed. A tour of the Greek and Roman ruins of Empurres was extremely informative and would be of interest to any student of history. A particular shout out of Jorge, our guide, who not only provided excellent commentary but spent time one on one with each member of our tour group. Again, and excellent introduction to the beautiful Costa Brava!
