Ulysses S. Grant Cottage National Historic Landmark

OPEN FRI-SUN IN MAY, visit our website for hours & availability. Impoverished by a Ponzi-style swindle and dying of cancer, Ulysses S. Grant moved to the Cottage on June 16, 1885. With the love and support of his family, publisher Mark Twain, and the nation at large, he completed Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant days before his death on July 23. The publication of this two-volume work ensured his family’s financial security and gave the world one of the most critically acclaimed memoirs by a U.S. president or historic military figure. The cottage remains the same as during the Grant family's stay. Tour the downstairs of the cottage with original furnishings, decorations, and personal items belonging to Grant; including the bed where he died and floral arrangements that remain from Grant's August 4th funeral. The cottage is now owned by the State of New York and open to the public by the Friends of the Ulysses S. Grant Cottage. Located just 9 miles from downtown Saratoga Springs!

World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses

My wife and I have traveled a great deal and love visiting places of worship throughout the world. This place however has really opened our eyes. The grounds, buildings, people and atmosphere is just incredible and mostly the people are so happy, kind and loving. We loved the bible exhibit the most. Seeing all the old bibles and the use of Jehovah's name for God written in the earliest of traditions along with the persecution many of their people have and are still facing was the biggest eye opener. Note to self... It's a good idea to book online on their website Jw.org as although they cater for thousands of people per day, they can and do book out. We would hope to return one day to experience once again the joy these people have for what they do, the God they worship and the love they have for others. And make sure you go for a walk around the lake, just beautiful. Oh, two more things. They won crazy awards for their environmentally friendly designs and use of the land and theirs some videos on the website about it. And if you have the chance, check out their other two sites, the arts department in patterson and definately the bible printer in (I believe it's warkill)... we've never seen anything like it. These people are a credit to their God.

This is such a great way to spend the afternoon- it’s huge, so lots of walking but also lots of benches to rest and enjoy. You can rent a bike, row a boat, ride in a horse drawn carriage, visit the zoo, stop for ice cream or lunch, or just wander and take in the various sculptures like Alice in Wonderland, Nathaniel Hawthorne, John Lennon’s Imagine mosaic. You cannot visit Manhattan without doing Central Park. Short walk to a lot of hotels and shopping as well.
