The 10 Best Scenic Walking Areas in Florida, United States

October 3, 2021 Velvet Mowry

Not just for retirees and theme park enthusiasts, the Sunshine State offers beautiful beaches, pristine diving conditions, and sizzling nightlife. Salsa the night away in a smokin’ hot Miami club, or swing away at one of Kissimmee’s many premium golf courses. An airboat tour of the Everglades is an unforgettable adventure – just look out for alligators! For the risk-averse, a lazy day spent on the soft sands of an Emerald Coast beach is as rejuvenating as a spa treatment.

West Martello Tower

West Martello Tower has tropical gardens set in a historical fort. Home to Key West Garden Club, it is one of the island's last remaining free tourist attractions with free parking. Our mission is to provide educational opportunities for the community relating to tropical gardening and to this National Historic site. The fort is located on the ocean edge. During these times, your safety is our concern. We are asking visitors to wear masks, observe 6 ft. distancing and limiting your groups to 10 or less. Enjoy our beautiful garden!

The West Martello Tower is a unique free stop on the waterfront on Atlantic Blvd in Key West. This Civil War fort ruin is now home to the Key West Garden Club and beautifully enhanced with an amazing variety of native and decorative plants that thrive in the sub tropical climate. It is a great picture opportunity and a totally different experience that one would expect in KW.

One of my favorite spots to visit when I'm in Key West. The historic old West Martello Tower is filled with a lush array of tropical plants in every hue of green imaginable. The fragrance garden is especially lovely, where blooms from sweet almond, gardenia, and other flowers scent the air. It's a nice spot to recharge and relax, far from the crowds on Duval. I was joined on the courtyard of the butterfly garden by an inquisitive pair of ibis and some Monarchs. And the crashing surf nearby was the perfect accompaniment. A bonus...it's done up beautifully for Christmas right now. And free, though donations are welcome. Some cute items for sale, too, if you want a unique souvenir.
