The 10 Best Sacred & Religious Sites in Yucatan Peninsula, Yucatan Peninsula

August 21, 2021 Alida England

Hidden gems of Yucatan, such as Tulum, Akumal, Chetumal, Chichen Itza and Merida, offer an authentic taste of Mexico. Akumal and more Caribbean-style Chetumal, near the Belize border, deliver delectable white-sand beaches and great snorkelling. Merida, Chichen Itza and Tulum, with their ancient ruins, offer a passage into the Yucatanâs native history. Nature lovers can jungle trek and swim in subterranean sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Bike around the ruins and hop between towns in colectivo vans.

San Miguel Church (Iglesia de San Miguel)

Reviewed By JustDiveIn - Miami, United States

Every time we come to Cozumel we stop by this church to attend the 8pm Saturday night mass. We were lucky to be at the St Michaels celebration that took place on Sept 28th. The streets leading up to the church were closed off 2-3 blocks in each direction for the festival, there was a stage with live entertainment right outside the church, locals were selling homemade food and desserts. When it was time for mass, all activities got halted and everyone piled into the church, standing room only for most as the church was bursting at the seams. The mass celebration was beautiful you can feel the faith of all the people in the air. I highly recommend attending this mass as well as this festival. Templo y Ex Convento de Santiago Domingo

Worth the short drive to Uayma just to see this church. Especially if you love design and architecture (+churches) of Mexico. The SPATIAL quality the floral designs are unique and I enjoyed photographing them all inside and out. If the history of this church was available - I didn't see it! Now I'm doing some research on how it happened. Very quiet peaceful town - just a few steps from main part of Uayma
