According to the finds and its position, some identify Velika Mrdakovica with Arauzona, a Liburnian settlement described by Plinius in his travelogues. Judging by the rich finds of metal buckles and jewellery, old money and fragments of glass and ceramics, it is quite safe to say so.

The land was mostly owned by noble families from Sibenik that build country houses on the island, among which is the mansion of the famous Vrancic family. The most celebrated representative of this family is Faust Vrancic, the author of numerous works such as “Machinae novae” and “Dictionary of the five noblest languages of Europe”.

The fortress of Trosenj, situated on the right bank of the river Krka, belonged to the Croatian noblemen Subic Bribirski. It was constructed for controlling the bridge over the river Krka towards the Town of Necven, which was strategically very important.

In the settlement of Bribir, 15 km far from Skradin, there is an attractive site named Bribirska glavica, the centre of the Croatian state in the 13c and cultural monument of the highest category. This archaeological site is known as the "Croatian Troy" - it is one of the most important archaeological sites in Croatia, where it is possible to follow the sequence of living from the prehistory, Liburnian age, Early and Late Antiquity, Early Croatian to Early and Late Middle Ages.

This locality was protected in 1974. The protected landscape of the Channel-Harbour encompasses the area from the Sibenik Bridge to the end of the Channel of St. Anthony, more precisely to the fortress of St. Nicholas with the accompanying surrounding sea area. No one has yet passed through the Channel of St. Anthony without experiencing awe at this rare sight of beauty. On the Sibenik side, at the start of the channel, stand the rules of old towers erected during the 16th century.
