as soon as you arrive in the Bar Harbor area check out the tide schedule so you know when you can walk this and go when you can walk it and when you cannot to see the difference. Incredible experience.

We happened to be crossing the bridge in Hancock and noticed white water. Decided to take a closer look and wow were we surprised. We could have stayed for hours watching the water flowing. The sheer volume of water moving was like watching a river going up and over boulders. So hypnotizing. Found in accidentally in Aug. Came back with friends in September. They were also amazed. We will be back. We saw it about 1 hour before low tide.

My family and I were traveling between Lubec and Calais, and decided to drop in on this particular attraction - and are so glad that we did. This small site has some great scenery, but is of particular interest to history geeks. The grounds, including various metal statues and well-presented history of one of the very earliest European settlements in North America is fascinating. The gentleman who was on duty in the visitors' centre gave us a very informative overview of a bit of history with which we were less familiar - in part as it was more Francophone than Anglophone. Absolutely worth the visit.

This is a small memorial spot featuring a lovely sculpted memorial to fisherman lost at sea. Since this is a fishing community it has strong emotional ties to the town. In addition to the sculpted memorial, you can spend a few quiet moments here watching the fishing boats and the famous Bay of Fundy tides go in and out. Since the memorial is on "the narrows" between Lubec and Campobello the tides can be pretty dramatic - looking as much like rapids on the Colorado River (with clean clear water) as anything oceanic.

This White Church is the 3rd iteration of the Congregational Church; the original (1853) White Church was replaced by a granite church in 1942 and, after that church was destroyed in fire, the third and last (1951) form of the church took shape. It is very similar to the original church and feels so very "New England." Although the church opens on Sundays for worship (and not during the week for visits), it is a very welcoming religious community and holds a community-wide dinner every Tuesday night. It also promotes itself as hate-free, writing its message in 5 languages. The meaning is perfectly clear. The historical 1790 cemetery is right next door; a much earlier Congregational Minister is credited with its founding. The Civil War monument in the cemetery honors the contribution made by then-Eden's son, in defense of the Union. The church is on one of the most interesting streets in Bar Harbor: Mt. Desert. Next to Main Street, this is one street we'd highly recommend for an in-town walking tour of this history-rich Main treasure called Bar Harbor.
