Splitska  - Roman Quarries

This was an export port for quarry produced stone blocks for building famous Diocletian Palace in Split, listed by the UNESCO as the World Heritage. Stones for the palace were collected in quarries Plate, Rasohe and Strazisce. In Rasohe you can see the relief of Greek mythological hero Hercules. There is also a thematic path Hercules available in tourist offer which starts in Splitska.

Great job slaves on the stone relief. I loved stone chisel marks and was really evocative with a little imagination. Finding it was half the fun - tip is to follow the hornets!

Summer House Of Jerolim Kavanjin

This is a baroque summer house from 17th century with park and supporting houses, built by the port by famous poet from Split Jerolim Kavanjin. It has an inscription over the south gate "OSTIVM NON HOSTIVM", meaning "the gates are open only to friends". There is also a monumental stone at the front of the courtyard with verses from his “grand poems”.

This house belonged to a respectable family of famous poet's mother, Tommaseo family. It used to have on the northern front a baroque coat of arms of family Tommaseo with a palm tree in the lower field and the stars in the upper. The two-storey building with attic and a tower to the east was originally late renaissance castle Lazanic, the oldest building in Postira, built to defend the port.

This small church was built in the 14th. It's interesting because on its roof grows a 200 years old miniature pine. Within the church there is Nikola Lazanić's altar from the 16th century.
