The 10 Best Photography Tours in Bhutan, Bhutan

May 22, 2022 Almeta Stockton

Remote Bhutan first allowed the world a peek inside in 1974. With four millennia of habitation, the Himalayan kingdom offers a trove of archaeological treasures, including many ornate temples and dzong fortresses. Isolation has preserved the heavily Buddhist-influenced culture of the last Shangri-La.

I really enjoyed my tour. Both my guide and driver were wonderful, however as a solo on a group tour that no one else booked it wasn't what I was after (not the company's fault). The guide was extremely thorough, and adapted the meals to suit my request for more local cuisine, and was excellent when I had a bad dizzy spell when hiking. The before tour info was very good and helpful, extremely responsive although it was a bit strange when I was still getting text messages randomly after the tour had finished. I feel like the service and hotels were of outstanding quality, and my only issue is really with the way the country forces you to take organised tours where possible and that results in a tour where you don't feel like you see anything genuine, rather very touristy places that all the other tourists are at. It would be nice if tours could allow staff to join the passengers at meals etc so solo travellers don't end up alone most of the time.

I just completed the Mount kilimanjaro climb organized by Himalayan Glacier. I was supported by a fantastic guide Fromance. He ensured my safety and took me on several additional walks at the various huts where we stayed. We had fun and very interesting adventures. The rest of the team included a fantastic chef, Yona, who created spectacular dishes including a celebratory cake for us after finishing the climb. I would highly recommend anyone considering this climb to go with Himalayan Glacier

7. Changangkha –Buddha Dordenma Cycling Tour (half Day)

Bhutan Swallowtail Tours

As dawn breaks and the morning sun rises from the blue pine forest in the adjacent hills, streaks of gold and silver shimmers on one of the oldest temple in the capital -the Changangkha Lhakhang/temple. The trail leads through gentle slopes as well as steep rugged mountain paths between the placid woods. We would suggest you to get down from your bike when the rocky cliff tests your tires in between some unfinished trail. After 3 hours of walking under the cool shade, you will come to an open space where you will see the giant statue of Buddha Dordenma – the biggest sitting Buddha in the world.

Inclusions: Coffee and/or Tea, Lunch, Dinner, Bottled water, Mountain Trekking Bike (Trek Series)

Exclusions: Alcoholic Beverages

You can also get a spectacular view of the Taktsang Monastery from the top which you will not see from the usual tourist route.
