The 10 Best Performances in Oklahoma, United States

May 5, 2022 Leonarda Pillsbury

With hundreds of man-made lakes, state parks, casinos, museums and nightlife and dining opportunities in revitalized downtown areas in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, there is a lot to see and do in the Sooner State. The state is dotted with phenomenal lakes where swimming, boating and bass fishing are the most desired activities. Some of the state’s most popular lakes include Broken Bow Lake located near the Quachita Mountains; Grand Lake in the northeastern corner of the state at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and Lake Murray in the hills in the southern part of the state. While the state is known for its many outdoor activities like great fishing, golf, hiking, canoeing and boating, make sure you don’t overlook its fantastic museums. Heading the list are Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, featuring the world’s largest collection of art and artifacts from the American West; the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, which tells the story of the American Cowboy; and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, which has a permanent collection of American and European art. A venerable family favorite activity is Frontier City Amusement Park in Oklahoma City, which has dozens of rides and shows.

We visit Oklahoma a few times a year. At Thanksgiving, our son and daughter-in-law with their four children treat us to the showing of “A Christmas Carol”. I think this is the third time I have seen it. Every time has been and amazing performance by each one of the cast members. But the man that plays Scrooge is awesome. I also am very impressed with the actors that played the spirits. But all the actors are excellent. All around, this is an excellent play for family or a date or a school group, whatever. There were lots of children in the theater and the performance was so good that all the children were very well behaved. Also, it’s a lively theatre. The shows sell out quickly and the performance is only from November 29th to December 24th this year (2019)

Awesome band! I love this venue. Open and old school. Get there early if you want to get in before the crowd. Bars at multiple locations and with an area off to the side leading outside for smoking, it is a good atmosphere. I will be going back to this. I have spent lots of money on crappy seats at BOK and will come to this place instead even if less known names. Right down the block is a great Pub you can sit at and wait for the concert while having a drink or eating great food. Wonderful night

The Bartlesville Community Center is a wonderful location for events and performing arts. They host several Broadway touring productions over the year as well as several local arts performances. The space is great for weddings, special events and meetings with a wide variety of space available. There seems to always be something happening at the BCC and the beautiful architecture makes it one of the most unique venues in Bartlesville. The staff is friendly and helpful and the rental fees are very reasonable. Thinking about a small get together? The balcony is one of my favorite places to attend an event! And the rental fee is very affordable! Also, because of the great architecture you can request a tour of this building. It's fun to see all the nooks and crannies of this architectural masterpiece.

The Stone Lion Inn Murder Mysteries and Dinner

Reviewed By Y2240HQbarbarab - Tulsa, United States

We lost my 30 week old grandson in February due to placental abruption and this past Saturday my friend from middle school passed so we needed to clear our minds and I found this on Groupon. While they were technically booked we were squeezed in last minute. I recommend reserving a week in advance or at least a few days so you can get in character. However, for a last minute deal with a two hour drive, I think we pulled it off. My 13 year granddaughter joined me and we stayed at the White Peacock in the Egyptian room. It was the last one available and probably why we were squeezed in. The dinner was fabulous (don't eat too many appetizers because you won't be hungry for the fabulous home cooked meal! The staff was fabulous, the characters were a lot of fun, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. When everything was over and we went to our room at the White Peacock we relaxed then readied for bed. My granddaughter was laying on the bed listening to music on her phone and I was laying there watching her. I suddenly FELT three taps on the bottom of the bed like a child would do when they want your attention. It was three taps .... could the three year old girl's spirit follow us there? In the morning my granddaughter had a small scratch on her face that was not there when she went to sleep. We forgot to mention this Sunday morning. I do want to go back and was thinking about staying in the main house - The Stone Lion Inn, but I might ask for the Egyptian room again (don't thinks that's what it's called but that's what it looks like). Do go .... don't eat too many appetizers ... pay attention to the clues .... have fun! :) We will be back for sure! I'm wondering if we were visited because of our recent losses.
