garlic soup!!!

Reviewed By Brinkerz

we visited last summer (2014) and enjoyed a great meal; their garlic soup is unsurpassed, wonderfully garlicky, very very very good. I haven't been able to recreate it at home. The day we went there was a very hot one, but with a nice tall Urquell life gets really comfortable really quickly. We didn't spend the night, as we had a rent-a-cabin down the road. But friends of ours back home (The Netherlands) recommended this place. Herman's rocks!

Great food in a cold day

We stopped in this place by a chance on our walk around. While we got lost, we found this restaurant and had a great soup, sweet dumplings and spaghetti Bolognese. All very lovely and warm and the waiter was polite. Could find ourselves in a better place. Olus it was all really cheap!

Worst guesthouse that we have ever visited

Reviewed By Jaroslava K

We have been for 2 days and it was enough. We bought the stay through a discount site (3 days for 2500 CZK with half board). The ad stated accommodation in a historic building. We stayed in the annexe of bowling. Negatives were: bowling was heard until 22:30, so you can not talk about a peaceful evening. The room was dirty, the carpet we are afraid to stand without shoes. The toilet was not cleaned after the previous guest or a cleaning lady can not consecutive flush. The owner did not solve anything, say tomorrow, which I think is indecent. The food was average, breakfast was better than dinner. We were very disappointed because for the same price but twice the length of stay in Dolni Morava in Penzin Na Rozcestí we had a very nice, clean room. I can not recommend this guest house.

A nice area, but maybe we were expecting more

Reviewed By Vasile R

We arrived here around 20:00 when we were greeted by a nice girl (maybe the owner's daughter) who was speaking English (something not that often in Czechia). She showed us the room which was small, clean, no TV, good wifi and an okay bathroom with shower. We went down to the restaurant to have the dinner, but we were very disappointed because we got some strange meal that we didn't like at all. The only thing that they could cook was some Chicken with vegetables, mushrooms, sausages and soya sauce and some french fries. It looked like something cooked with the rest of things they had in the fridge at that time. If I were the owner I would have said that we are sorry and don't have anything to offer at that hour rather than to just throw some ingredients in a pan. The smell and taste was a big NO for us. But maybe this is what people eat in those places, different tastes. The good thing is that the girl saw that we cannot eat and she apologized and did not wanted us to pay for it. This is one of the things that I really appreciate! It seemed fair! The breakfast was really good when you compare it with the dinner and it was a nice buffet from where you could choose what you want to eat. When we had to pay the owner didn't seem to know how to use Booking.com because we wanted to pay in Koruna as we booked and he said we have to pay in Euro as it says on booking, but this because he did not change the currency into Koruna. And then he made the exchange manually into Koruna from Euro and we paid with 28 Koruna more than we should have. Never happened before since I book via Booking.com

Warm & Welcoming

Reviewed By abager

I stayed here after being caught in the rain during a cycle ride along the Elbe valley, and arrived drenched and tired. The hotel made me welcome. Rooms are large and well equipped and the bathroom provided piping hot water and a towel rail on which i could dry my clothes. The manager directed me to the only restaurant open on a Sunday evening, a charming Croatian pizzeria. The hotel was also good value. And breakfast was abundant and delicious.

Too expensive for the quality

Reviewed By Natanael M

Well I admit that visiting this resort in late summer is not usual but c´mon. We came and were quite tired after long hiking in the mountains. OK, the view from the room could have been better but acceptable just for the sleep. Breakfast quite acceptable with really poor offer. So, next time in Pec pod Sněžkou in a different accomodation because this really didn´t worth the money!!!

Horsky pension GENDORF

If the name of the town is ‘Black Hole’ (Cerny Dul), then Pension Gendorf shines like a diamond in the dark :-)

Seriously. This is probably the nicest place we’ve ever stayed at in the Czech Republic (and we’re there quite often), and it is in particular perfect for visiting the area for a skiing trip. Let me start with the location, which is perfect indeed. It is both close enough to the center of the town, where the slopes are, for you to need only a couple of minutes to get there by car, and far enough from the center for you not to be bothered by the bustle of bars and cars. Pretty cool. The rooms are very clean, spacious, well-equipped and at the same time have a cozy feeling that you don’t get at chain hotels. It was a pleasure to come back there after a day of skiing. The food is simply amazing for a small hotel like this. For breakfast, you can get all kinds of cheese, vegetables, tasty salads, and although we don’t eat meat, we noticed there was a selection of sausages, ham, and so on, too, and that the meat eaters around us seemed to be as happy with it as we were with our stuff, that is very much. Overall, the breakfast was very varied and everything was fresh and tasty. Dinners are still another, and equally good, story. Between 4pm and 5pm you can get warm soup, which is a very good idea right after coming down from the slopes. There were different soups every day, each represented the local cuisine, and each was very enjoyable. Then, around 7.30 pm, there is the main dinner, which offers, seriously, some amazing dishes: risottos, knedliki (local specialty), and all kinds of meats and veggie dishes. Plus the dessert, which although we normally skip it, always looked so nice we would yield to the temptation. Ah, yes, if you are into beer, at Gendorf you can enjoy a selection of good local brews, and if wine is your thing, there are also some surprisingly good Moravian wines for you to taste. If you feel like letting your muscles rest a bit after a day of hiking or skiing, you can hit the sauna and the Jacuzzi, which was big enough for us to be able to play water ball there with our kids. :-)) Again, very clean and very nice. Last but not least, there is the owner, Mr. Jiři Boš, who made the whole experience even more enoyable. Mr Boš is super nice, friendly, helpful, and a fun guy to be around. Talking about helpful, on the first day he noticed we didn’t touch our meat at dinner and when he learned we do not eat meat at all, he himself proposed they could cook veggie stuff especially for us. AMAZING, right? And they did, with all this stuff being super good, including awesome zucchini on a hot plate, marinated tofu dishes, and so on. Pure bliss. One final thing, for all you history buffs out there, the hotel was named after Kristof of Gendorf, a XVI century Czech industrialist and politician, quite an interesting figure indeed. If you want to know more about the guy and his story, just ask Mr. Jiři who knows all about it. And even if you do not want to know more, and are not a history buff at all, then the very fact the hotel was named after such a historical figure, should give you a taste of how unique the place is and how much thought and imagination was put into it! Definitely recommended.
