Grenspark de Zoom-Kalmthoutse Heide

Reviewed By Robert937 - Rotterdam, The Netherlands

60 square kilometers of nature is sizeable in a densely populated region. Heath, small lakes and swampy areas, forest and patches of sand make the park attractive for different kinds of vegetation, birds and other animals. There is an extensive infrastructure for hikers especially in the Belgian part (well-marked trails, loops possible for short as well as long 24 km walks, informative visitor center at the Kalmthout side). Located on the border between Belgium and the Netherlands the park is most easily accessible from Kalmthout (Heide railway station is just 30 minutes from Antwerp and within walking distance to the entry). Access from Ossendrecht or Huijbergen near Bergen op Zoom (Netherlands) is also a good option. OV fiets/bike rental is available at Bergen op Zoom railway station. I cycled the 70 km from Rotterdam early Deoember and was surprised to see many visitors. Corona infection risk is minimal!

Antwerp Zoo (Dierentuin)

Large, well-defined zoo which houses a variety of species from giraffes to fish.

Reviewed By kmok1994 - Reims, France

As an employee at a zoo, I have had many different experiences traveling around the world seeing different zoos and learning about how they operate. Without a doubt, the Antwerp Zoo is one of the most beautiful and well-done zoos I have been to. The mix of historic enclosures with modern zoo-keeping techniques is wonderful and the circular sense of the visit makes it quite the unique zoo (especially with its location right next to the central train station). I would recommend this zoo for all ages. Kids and adults alike will love the diverse animals and the gorgeous gardens on the property. Don't miss the koalas!!
