The 10 Best Night Tours in North Holland Province, The Netherlands

October 25, 2021 Weston Hennigan

Mostly jutting northward from its largest city of Amsterdam and its capital of Haarlem, the Noord-Holland region has much more to offer beyond those two wonderful cities. At Muiden is the magnificent Muiderslot Castle, as if it stepped out of a fairy tale. Showing more wear but no less interesting is Brederode Castle at Santpoort. At Zaanstad is Zaanse Schans, one of Holland’s top tourist destinations and a family-friendly open air museum of windmills, traditional buildings, crafts and shops.

There are so many boat / cruise tours in Amsterdam to choose from, but this one was an easy choice for us because of 3 reasons: 1) the boat looked beautiful and less touristic 2) the boat was limited to 8 seats, and we did not want to be together with a big group especially during Corona time. 3) The departure very convenient for us as it was close to the 9th streets where we usually were hanging out. We arrive to the departure location 15 min early, and we saw the boat approaching with some other tourists. They were laughing and having a good time. Our host said good bye to the other group and greeted us with a smile. He told us we are the only guests on his boat at 17h so we will have the private tour for the price a normal ticket. We started our 90 min tour on this beautirful boat. The host was knowledgeable and we got to ask him all our questions about life in Amsterdam. We spent a great moment, it was definitely the highlight of our trip to Amsterdam. Definitely choose this boat instead of the big tourist boats, its worth it!

Highly recommend! Rocco and Monique are great hosts, and the experience was truly unique. My partner and I did another canal cruise during our time in Amsterdam, and the experience was totally different (far less intimate, audio guided via headphones and hard to keep up / see details). Since Rocco’s boat is a lot smaller than larger tour providers, you’re able to venture into smaller areas (e.g. under the super romantic seven bridges) and you don’t miss any details. Rocco and Monique have done a great job providing a curated and highly personal experience.

Felicia was our tour guide. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and open to any question we had. We enjoyed the banter, the jokes and the serious information about her trade. The stroll through the district, the alleys, the view of the room and explanation of the working relationships were all beneficial in gaining a full understanding. Would highly recommend this tour.

First time visit, club was smaller that expected and not all that busy. Headphones were given on entry and we were told we had to leave jackets at the entrance at a €1.50 charge per coat! On arrival at bar we received our free shot and off to the dance floor we went. 3 stations of music all very random on each station you can control the headphones yourself. Ok for something to do but the novelty soon wears off
