** Caution - Long thread ** If you are worried about crowd , want privacy, some metime , own the waterfalls for few hours ? Then pick the off season time and I skipped the usual waterfalls, tried to duplicate VSNU's itenary (youtuber) WONDERFUL Auto bro, trustworthy , guided for tasty breakfast and helped to cover most places in Day 1. Had a excellent trip 1) unnamed private falls 1 (beautiful and private place, i was there almost 2/3 hours ) charges 150 for a vehicle and 50RS per head there after. Double check with auto bro. Out of all the places i liked this most due to privacy and unlimited timing. 2)Erumachavadi waterfalls ( two falls on private property , one is open to public and another exclusively you can book. 200RS for public and 100 extra for private falls approx they allow for an hour . 3) Gundaru Dam-first falls i did not explore the dam much but had a bumpy and scary ride on a jeep. it was quite adventurous. Per Auto bro there are 5/6 water falls upwards. i stopped with first one little slippery and need be carefull. Best thing about this waterfalls is that you get fish pedicure at free of cost..!! Location : Tenkasi/Courtallam Budget -- stay : 650 per day /solo traveler food : approx 300-400 per day site entry/private waterfalls - 1)200 2)300 3)600 for jeep (public water falls free) Auto bro : 1500 to 2 k. Agaya Gangai Waterfalls

Reviewed By karthikr906 - Chennai (Madras), India

Agaya Gangai waterfalls is 1 km walk down from the sides of the temple. The main attraction of Kolli Hills. One has to climb down (and back) 1302 steps to reach the falls. The steps are steep and can get very tiring. It takes approximately 30 mins to climb-down to the falls and 1 hr to climb-up back. Agaya Gangai waterfalls is the attraction of Kolli hills. Water falls from 300 feet of height and is an amazing view. The water falls on either the rocks or the pond like place near the rocks based on the water flow. One needs to get into the pond of water to get wet in the waterfalls. A rope is tied leading people through the pond towards the waterfalls for safety. Definitely, a great place ! We spent around 45 minutes in water. Do take snacks when you go down. Once you are out of water, you would feel hungry and need lots and lots of energy to make it back to the top across 1000+ steps !

Meghamalai - High Wavy Mountains

Reviewed By arunachalam_78

I visited megamalai (Highways panchayat) in Jan 01, 2019 and Jan 02, 2019. We start our journey from thekkady to megamalai on our own car. I booked the “Woodbriar manalar Cottage” to stay for two days. This is one of the good places to stay as of now as a family. On google it is better you use “Highways cloud mountain bunglow” or “Highways hospital”. Many people miss their way by using “Megamalai”. You come to chinnamanur and reach here via “Odaipatti”. If you stay in woodbriar tea bunglow and come with your own vehicle, make sure you have SUV or Jeep. If you are in Sedan or another hatchback, then the last 5 k.m and you cannot travel using them. Good news is that they have started the road work work now, so if you visit here after 3 months (minimum) or 6 months (maximum) the road should be ready at this time. What you can see in megamalai? First remember this is not the commercial tourism place, so do not expect like Ooty, kodaikanal etc. But I always prefer non-commercial hill stations. In megamalai, you can walk, trekking etc. Apart from that you can visit the falls, Maharaja Mettu view point, tea factory. You can spend half day in Maharaja Mettu view point , if you visit there do not stop at one place . make sure you see the small Church ( Only Cross ) , one murugan temple and another amman temple . People over there told me that normally people do not come here and they stop at one point. So, keep on walk till the top. You can see the nice view from there, good place to relax. Next important place is the lake. I think if you stay in woodbriar cottage you can visit here, otherwise you need to take the permission to visit here. The falls is very good, guide told me that on summer elephant came to this water fall. This is the very beautiful falls. if you go to megamalai, do not miss to see this water falls. Apart from this you can go to manalaru, dam and relax in so many places. What else we can see here? There are few more places which we are not allowed. Local people told me that there is a place called “vatta parai” and public are not allowed here as animals are coming often here and very difficult to reach here.

Upper Bhavani Lake

Reviewed By sanjayvora45 - Ahmedabad, India

The lake is one of the best as far as I have heard among ooty tourist places. We started early from ooty to reach avalanche lake which is around 18-20 kms from Ooty main centre. But luck is not with us, as we are on the way, we had been informed that forest department has closed the road leading to the lake due to landslide. So we retuned without seeing the marvelous lake. I have some of the basic information which might helpful : To explore upper bhavani lake one has to reach around 9 or 9.30 AM at the gate of forest office as rush of tourist increases afterward. Tourist has to park their vehicle there and buy entry ticket to board the forest deptt. bus. Bus tour takes around 2 hours and three point covered are cauliflower forest, Bhavani Amman Temple and Upper Bhavani Lake.

We visited Agasthiyar Falls in the middle of February. The falls is surrrounded by lush green forest and the whole place looks magical. The waterfalls is quite good with a wall dividing the men and women bathing area. Water is heavenly with lots of herbs. The force of the water is surpringly heavy though the height is around 25 ft only. The surpring thing is that all animals roam here after 5:00 p.m. so we have to leave by 4:30 p.m. In all the whole experience left me thrilled. Will definitely go back again

Avalanche Lake

Reviewed By rashmimilan - Bengaluru, India

Bored by the usual crowded tourist spots of Ooty, this time we enquired with our tour operator to take us to a not much visited place away from the hustling-bustling crowd. He suggested us Avalanche. We decided not to Google and find any detailed information as we wanted to experience it all fresh. And was quite surprised that we were not disappointed at all. The Jeep drive from the pick-up spot to Avalanche was so exciting through scenic forests and valleys with a stop-over in between by a small stream overlooking a beautiful temple which stood a top of a valley. We were suggested to drink the water directly that was oozing out from a point of small rock which they believed was the starting point of a river which converged into the valley to become the massive river. Avalanche - absolutely no words. A heaven on earth. With wild yellow and pink flowers strewn across the valley. I almost dropped my plan of visiting Valley of Flowers in the Himachal for a moment. The century old pine trees added to a perfect bollywood scenic destination. Must-visit if you want to cherish your trip to Ooty.
