Pollok Country Park

Over 360 acres of green, this lovely park is best known for its well-kept scenic running and walking trails.

This is Glasgow's biggest park. It is still beautiful but is currently suffering from neglect. The stables area leading to the River Cart weir and mill is closed off by serious fencing. The area is in a bad state of decay and has been for some time This is disgraceful. Post covid, this will once again be visited by many people from overseas who through tourism, generate much needed money for our beleaguered city. Please get it sorted. There is so much to see. Sir John Stirling Maxwell's amazing mansion built 1752 The rustic bridge over the River Cart, the river weir, the extensive gardens and endless walking paths and the famous Highland cattle which were hiding( I hope) on this visit.. Unfortunately the house is closed for visits under current covid restrictions..

Went on a sunny day with family, lots of wee trails to go on and lovely views of the waterfall. Wasn’t too busy and could easily have spent the full day here.

The Hidden Gardens

A well kept urban garden. It has areas of wildflowers and many trees. There is a quiet spot to watch the birds feed as well as a reasonable lawn to relax in the sun or let your little ones run around a bit. It seems this garden is run mainly by volunteers and there is certainly a strong sense of community here. There is a large selection of herbs growing with some available for sale. It is a perfect spot for those who live locally who do not have access to a garden. However, if you are not a llocal visit anyway. Every community should have one of these.

Queens Park

Autumn Colours are really brilliant presently despite the wind wresting every loose leaf from the trees boughs. this adds to the spectacle with the ground bestrewn with carpets of yellow and golden rivers of crisp colour and noisy effect. See the attached pics showing the dazzling variety and effect nature is showing off to us with the close season arriving. It's truly magic for all ages to see such free colour brought on by the recent cold snap resulting in the leaves metamorphose showing such splendor of colour range. It's got more variety than an artists palette can portray. It's both rich and unique at all scales as you get pleasure from not just afar but also close up to see the change in each leaf and its individual vein and section. There's plenty of tremendous ranges of effect showing in the Chestnuts especially and Ash and Sycamore together with the familiar and reliable Maples with the shrubs always adding a splendid backdrop with brambles and creepers giving good displays too. The beauty is you can enjoy this for several weeks as it plays out day after day with different sections showing a new effect adding dynamism, colour and vibrancy like an orchestra in full symphonic performance. There's always plenty else to do here as you've the viewing area affording splendid views over the city centre esp good on a clear day or there's the splendid reptile house which maintains a variety of creatures that would rival pretty good section in any zoo and it's all free. Last off there's always the favourite duck pond - although not really a wildfowl attraction but fun as always to see the ducks gathering about your feet chasing the bread and corn they fight for. Parking is limited and depends where you come from but generally ok. Many other parks are showing similar splendor too presently so make an effort and esp when the sun is out as it adds to the contrast and lifts the mood amidst the otherwise dour conditions we face going into the winter with only feint memories of the warmth and colour recently come to pass.
