The 10 Best Nature & Parks in Saint-Malo, Brittany

October 1, 2021 Stefan Strunk

Saint-Malo, originally built as a walled citadel guarding the mouth of the Rance river, was for centuries home to feared pirates. They’ve all gone to Davy Jones’ Locker, though, and now it’s Brittany’s most-visited city. Walk the bustling streets of the reconstructed old city and the vast beaches, making sure to stop at the Grande Porte, Porte St-Vincent, the town’s castle with its Musée de la Ville and the Grand Aquarium.

You can walk the whole perimeter of the "Intra-muros" Saint Malo town, without coming down off the ramparts. It's not to be missed if you're visiting this beautiful town.

Plage du Sillon

We spent a late summer weekend and the beach is absolutely beautiful. Clean and no litter. At low tide there were a few swimmers and a very wide expanse of beach. The sunsets were spectacular.

Plage du Mole

Reviewed By 467sandyd - Holland, United States

This is our favorite beach. We've spent the last 7 years visiting St. Malo and staying between 3 and 7 months each year. This is the beach that is always sandy, no rocks to walk on to reach the water. I have always worn "beach/water shoes" in the water because I hate stepping on unknown objects. This year, since we swam at the Plage du Mole, I didn't need my shoes. Even during a low tide, there is still plenty of sand to walk on. However, this is the smallest beach around, so on extremely crowded days, there might not be a lot of private space to put your towel on.
