Mrs York's Garden

Reviewed By 993anitat - Forster, Australia

I had parked my car near Goal Point and had walked along the break wall before coming back up the hill from the town centre when I came across Mrs York’s Garden. This is was a garden first established on the headland by Mrs York in the late 1960’s. It has been reestablished by volunteers. The walk is just lovely winding it’s way down the headland and then back up to Goal Point. There is a little man-made waterfall and volunteers have planted heaps of littoral rainforest species and coastal headland species. What is really nice is that the trees have been labeled. I will need to come back for another walk in years to come to see how this area grows and develops back into a dense, lush area.

Little Bay

Reviewed By robbygc - Toronto, Canada

When I started to go down the wooden stairs, I could see how beautiful this place was. Once down, I was standing still. It was so beautiful! There were many rocks, boulders and massive boulders. The ocean hit its waves on the rocks. Sometimes the waves went way up in the sky. The color of the ocean was light blue. There was a lake thanks to the ocean and this is where it is the most attractive place on that beach. There was a beach for at least 100 people. Wow! This is truly gorgeous! This is a must see!

Billabong Zoo: Koala & Wildlife Park

Reviewed By 213laurencey - Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom

Today we visited Billabong zoo greeted by lovely ticket staff with big smiles and a lovely welcome. It has been one of the highlights of our holiday. The zoo keepers are not only amazing but very informative and show care and expertise in how they treat the animals. Always with the greatest respect I might add. Special thanks to Simonne no one knows more about Koalas than this young woman. Also she did several other animal talks given us a real insight to the work they do at the zoo and the importance of conservation. Thanks also to Brooke and her assistant we had a very informative chat about big cats she is an amazing young woman what an achievement working with these wonderful complex animals at such a young age. Also to Ashley excellent talk over the noise of traffic which wasn't easy about the stunning red pandas who obviously adore her. Shrek was fantastic and our jaws dropped at the skill of the presentation by both Keepers. Cafe offered lots of delights but we ended up with only having drinks and ice cream as the weather was too hot to eat a hot meal! Hope to visit again soon!

Coastal walk

Reviewed By halpmi - Port Macquarie, Australia

This is a lovely walk with some stairs, but the pathway is quite easy to manage. I would recommend early morning or late afternoon to take this walk. Early morning as the sun comes up is beautiful and with the chance to see dolphins around the river/Town Beach or possibly whales from the headlands....don't miss this and think of the benefits of the exercise!

Lake Cathie Foreshore Reserve

Reviewed By Andyjam2110 - Newcastle, Australia

I like Cathie but fair say that the foreshore can get a bit soupy when closed to the ocean. Quite an interesting little estuary system with lots of fish swimming around, and also a few rays. Good play equipment for the kids.
