This park is amazing for little kids. There's a huge castle fort made of wood with lots of activities built in from tires to musical instruments. There are tons of climbing areas for all ages and acres of grass to roam. Lots of parking, great place for a picnic. Highly recommend if your kids need to get out of the car or need a break between museums.

Winstead Hill Park

This is the site of Confederate General Hood's headquarters during the day of the Battle of Franklin. An excellent cast-bronze relief map just a short walk up the hill from the parking area presents the location and movement of troops from both sides during the conflict across the landscape stretching out to the horizon in front of you. From this site, it's pretty easy to grasp how the battle unfolded and why one-fifth of the soldiers became casualties in the fighting that stretched from here across two to three miles of open land leading into Franklin (at the time of the battle there were very few trees to be found on the farming lands in view here). While battlefields such as Gettysburg feature memorials to various units spread widely across the landscape, those monuments for the army units engaged in this battle are for the most part gathered right here, to be easily absorbed in a visit to a single location. In just a short time you can see the scope of the battle, see the memorials to those Confederate units that fought here, and gain an understanding of the significance of this distinctly bloody brief fight. There is a large parking area as well as a quality park-style restroom facility.

Confederate Memorial Park at Winstead Hill

In Sept. as a member of the United Daughters of Confederacy, I attended a dedication of a monument and wreath laying dedicated to the Missouri soldiers who died at the Battle of Franklin.. I was saddened by the number of Missouri Boys who died there. The park is beautiful, well maintained and very much worth visiting. Quiet and peaceful now and very informative about the Civil War. History happened no matter how we feel about it and these valiant men should not be forgotten, no matter what a person's views are on the causes of the Civil War.

Plenty of trails wind through this horse farm. Trails are marked for both equestrian and/or walking paths. The small lake is beautiful and a great spot for kids to fish. Various historical markers explain the parks history and present use. Such a great find on the edge of downtown Franklin. Good photo ops here!

This Williamson County Park with multiple loop trails of various lengths is accessed via the Natchez Trace Parkway near the iconic Trace Bridge that spans TN 96 West — is a great place to enjoy nature and get a little education on tree’s names while you’re at it. Not much of the property is flat or level — the trails run along the tops of hillsides and ridges as well as crisscrossing the steep ravines. Trail markers are very visible — four different color blaze markers — sometimes overlapping. Benches for resting are placed throughout the park to help you catch your breath or just enjoy the sights. A Trail Office is staffed with helpful guides and maps as well as public restrooms. Park closes at 4pm during the winter months.

Fort Granger Park

Reviewed By WHSkinner - Anchorage, United States

The surprisingly well-preserved earthworks that make up the Fort are well-worth visiting. Visitors can grasp how much work went into constructing a fortification. Once you grasp the commanding view this site has of the landscape which Confederate soldiers had to cross in attacking this fort, you can easily understand how the artillery at this site wreaked havoc upon the attackers. There were no other visitors here during our stop, and it contributed to the eerie sense that the soldiers here had perhaps only left the location a month or two ago...
