Green Bamboo Art Gallery

Reviewed By Theoldpostoffice178 - Nuneaton, United Kingdom

Lovely little gallery shop displaying beautiful traditional Chinese paintings, on rice paper, of Vietnamese topics. I bought schoolgirls on bicycles. Colour and monochrome, hand-painted by the man who sells them to you and will explain the technique. Framed for display in the gallery, but removed from frame and beautifully and carefully packaged to take home easily . Reasonable price, and one of my nicest souvenirs from my recent visit.

I was in Vietnam and stumbled upon Hoang's gallery while in Hue. I was so glad I did as his work is truly beautiful! He is incredibly talented. There were many pieces that I fell in love with, but one in particular really spoke to me, and while I was not originally intending on buying any artwork, I knew I could not leave without it. I made a deal to purchase the piece at a fair price, and Hoang even included shipping to my home in Arizona in the USA so I would not have to carry it with me on my motorbike and risk damaging it. I was a bit nervous paying for the artwork and trusting him to ship it, but as promised he shipped it immediately and provided a tracking number, and it arrived safely at my house back home within a few days. I have since framed the piece and it hangs in my living room. I look at it daily and it always brings a smile to my face, both because of its beauty and because it commemorates what ended up being an extraordinary journey through Vietnam. It always makes a nice conversation piece as well when people are over. If you find a piece of art you like in this gallery, do not hesitate to buy it! Hoang is a great guy and completely trustworthy, and his artwork is truly special.

Truc Chi Garden

Truc Chi GRAPHY - An acculturation in the contemporary context Originated from Hue in 2012, Truc Chi is now a valuable part of the new art culture of Hue, Vietnam. The art of Truc Chi was developed by artist Phan Hai Bang, professor at Hue University of the Arts, and colleagues. Together they have built upon the traditional art of paper crafting, utilizing a wide variety of materials, different techniques, and novel ideas, to create a new form of art and new cultural values, adding to the already rich culture of Hue. About 1km from the Imperial City of Hue, Truc Chi Garden with flowers and green bamboo trees is located at 5 Thach Han, Hue. This is where everyone can find a tranquil green space distinctive of Hue city, and discover a new form of art. Here people may enjoy an artistic space with many works of Truc Chi art on display, as well as handcrafting Truc Chi artworks. In addition to visual artworks created by the artists, people can also appreciate the spirit of Hue city, and the spirit of Vietnam through various products designed to bring forth traditions under contemporary forms and ideas, such as: Truc Chi cone hats, handmade bamboo fans, and elegant bamboo-framed umbrellas. With Truc Chi art, Lang Sinh artworks and Hue kites are presented under a new light. Beside viewing artworks, anyone can become an artisan by handcrafting Truc Chi products for themselves with the help of many enthusiastic Truc Chi artists! Exploring locally produced materials (bamboo being the main material), along with artistic creativity, Truc Chi breathes new life into simple bamboo trees, creating new values but not without carrying old traditions forward. Thus Truc Chi contributes much to the existing wealth of arts and culture of Hue. Since establishment in 2011 by artist Phan Hai Bang, then named by author/translator Buu Y in 2012, Truc Chi art has had many activities in research, exhibitions, and workshops within Vietnam as well as internationally, and received many national awards in visual arts and applied arts. At the same time, using principles of paper crafting and printmaking, the term “Trucchigraphy” was coined and recognized, to be used in the world of visual arts as well as in life. With the mission of: Aesthetics - Education - Society, Truc Chi Art of Vietnam has been recognized as appropriate actions aligning with the values and traditions within the contemporary context, by researchers and intellectuals of Hue, Vietnam.

Diem Phung Thi's museum has reopened and has been relocated to a more central area of Hue - next to the Truong Tien Bridge on the southside of the Perfume River. Producing amazing sculptures using a variety of materials, Diem deeply captures the heart of the Vietnamese people during a painful era of revolution and war in which she lived. Most of her works embody seven different shapes that blend harmoniously into a sophisticated form that made me feel and think deeply about the people here in Vietnam. I left wanting to see and learn more about Diem's Art and the scope of her life.

Entrance included in ticket to The Citadel, in the off-season they were less fussed about appropriate dress. 2 exhibits, the main exhibit housing antiques/artefacts from Nguyen dynasty. Most artefacts being pottery/metal wares used in day to day life, but professionally displayed in well lit cases and descriptions of the items. The second exhibit is a small room with an assortment of Cham sculptures from around the region. Very well explained through the description of pieces and Cham culture. Highly reccomended if you’re visiting the Citadel!
